Tried to resist, but I think one or two more literal glosses are helpful. Summer resorts/retreats aren't necessarily places you 
go to cool down. 避暑地 on google images gives you pictures of mountains, rivers, and mountain rivers, while "summer resort" is 
hotels with pools. A "summer resort" is more often than not a place you go to enjoy the hot weather, not a place you go to escape
