|
Comments: | yeah, this is a mess. e.g. koj has three separate entries (oubunsha kogo jiten has four) for: -- たまう 【給う・賜う】 [1][v5u,vt][hon] to give たまう 【給ふ・賜ふ】 [1][v2h-s,vt][arch,hum] to receive *but it's also a v4h variant of the other たまう たも・う 【給ふ・賜ふ】 [1][v4h,vt][arch,hon] to give [1][v2h-s,vt][arch,hum] to receive but the conjugations of koj's たもう don't match the conjugation of たもう in modern japanese (described by meikyo above). for modern japanese, we need たまう=v5u, たもう=v5u-s (but only conjugates as 終止形, 連体形, 連用形) also, we generally don't give suffixes before the meaning of the standalone word, so the order should be swapped |

Comments: | Should we mark the たもう reading as not having a stem/ending boundary or conjugating? If we don't do so, some users or client software might pronounce it as タモウ or conjugate it as たもいます / たもえ. As far as I know, only some words have the cross-boundary reading giving rise to a new combination of stem + ending: 【言う】いう→ゆう→ゆった 【酔う】えう→よう→よった According to this link, 給う isn't such a word: https://oshiete.goo.ne.jp/qa/1844024.html |

Comments: | I was thinking a lot about this entry the day Abe was shot, when officially the "心肺停止" lasted for several hours. I can't be sure this entry was the basis for it but I saw his condition referred to as "showing no vital signs" in English-language media and I felt a pang of guilt as I wasn't really sure this was an entirely accurate description (after the 心肺停止 was first announced, he was flown to a hospital and had 30 or so liters of blood pumped into him, before they finally announced his death). I'm wondering what other editors think, should maybe sense 2 be reworked into a note on sense 1? [note="oft. used in media for a death which is yet to be declared by a medical professional"] |

Comments: | When "adj-f" first emerged and got described as "noun or verb acting prenominally" I think I had in mind that the verb would either not be conjugating or was conjugated already, as in 得も言われぬ or ああいった. Then along comes 信用できる/信用できない and mucks things up. I'm very tempted to say that if a verb is usually prenominal, don't have a v1/v5x tag. I think that should work, and 信用できない can fend for itself. Of course 食べる doesn't get an "adj-f". So, I guess I'm back to Marcus' earlier position, and drop the verb tag for these cases. |
|
11. | A* 2018-06-25 20:01:42 Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | seems like the adj-f is unneeded. e.g., 食べるもの means 'things to eat', but we don't mark 食べる or any other verb as adj-f. i suggest adj-f not be used anywhere that it's tagged as a verb |
