Comments: | DIJG says that when the preceding verb is transitive, っぱなし "means that someone does something to X and leaves X as it is without putting it back to its original state, which is not the proper way." When the preceding verb is transitive, っぱなし "means that something or something keeps doing something." Prog and wisdom split along these lines. Dropping spec1 from the kanji form. |

Comments: | The addition of 伏せる to this entry has set up an overlap with 1500220. It's upset the examples for 伏せる because they get linked here as well. 臥せる/ふせる is not that common, and using 伏せる for this meaning is quite rare (which is why the JEs ignore it.) What I'm proposing to do is: - remove 伏せる from here; - add an extra sense in 1500220 - "to lie down; to retire; to go to bed (with an illness)" with xrefs to/from here. It's not the way kokugos do it, but it will be unambiguous and stop messing up the examples. |

Comments: | I think the usage in things like 自動ドア is just a noun in a compound noun, not adjectival. But even if we decide it's adjectival, 自動 is also commonly used as an adj-no (which I count as "noun" use)... which means normally we'd tag it as adj-no, not adj-f (because that's implied by adj-no). I think [adj-no,n] would be better than [adj-f] (I see our 半自動 entry is [n,adj-f] "semi-automatic", while 全自動 is [adj-no] "totally automatic") |

Daijirin:下級裁判所の決定・命令を不服として、上級裁判所に不服を申し立てること。 gg5: (法) a protest; a complaint; an appeal |
|
Comments: | I suggest there is no need to include the romaji "kokoku" in the Meaning. In my opinion "appeal" is a valid translation because, although procedural details may differ, the underlying concept is common to different jurisdictions. "Interlocutory" is a particular type of appeal so should be in a separate entry. When the issue about deleting the romaji (kokoku) is settled I will submit revisions for 準抗告、特別抗告 and 即時抗告 which have the same issue. I will also have a go at separating entries for "urgent" and "interlocutory", that is if it can be done without calling for a lawyer. Also can take the opportunity to update the cross-referencing. |

Comments: | For people (and esp. beginners) using tools like rikai-kun etc., I think it's convenient to be able to pick this up in one sweep and immediately provide an idiomatic translation instead of forcing them to puzzle out what the constituent parts mean on their own, and it's useful for reverse look-ups and possibly Japanese users looking for how to say 外で飼う in English (it probably won't take long before a google search for 外で飼う 英語 brings up the weblio page including this definition as the first result). Also in general if it really is an idiomatic expression (and in another source; even if it's eij), I think entries like these are basically harmless to include - there are no obvious downsides and you never know in what ways it might be useful (machine translation?) |

The example on 大辞林 is 互いに憎からず思っている. The example on 大辞泉 is 憎からず思う. The example on nihonjiten.com is 憎からず思う. I viewed 100 Google results for "憎からず" and found 63 憎からず思う 7 憎からず想う 1 憎からず感じる 21 dictionary sites (varying quality): at least 4 had 思う I have added a translation which is perhaps better than what I originally provided. |
