Comments: | A bit more info. It is from https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/カトリーヌ・ド・メディシス カトリーヌはマルグリットを彼女の意思から切り離し、二度と会うことはなかった。 This appears to be a translation of the English "Catherine cut Margaret out of her will and never saw her again" (at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_de'_Medici). However, I guess it may be a mistranslation (translator not understanding the sense in which "will" is meant). |
|
5. | A 2018-06-04 04:32:48 Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
Comments: | I think it's incorrect to use for a testamentary will. |
|
4. | A* 2018-06-04 02:56:12 Marcus Richert <...address hidden...>
Comments: | Are you sure it wasn't 遺志? Daijisen and Daijirin have a second sense in their 意思 entries but it concerns "intent/intention" as a legal term, e.g. criminal intent. |
|
3. | A* 2018-06-04 02:37:59
Comments: | I've seen this used as a translation of English "will" in the sense of a document stating what one wants to happen to one's possessions after one's death. This sense is missing here (or not explicit), but I'm not certain it's a correct translation. |

Comments: | Certainly not within the dictionary. It would be stretching things to have conjugations listed separately. In a morphologically heavy language like Japanese, where most of the verbs are very regular, I can't see any need for it. I could potentially do it in WWWJDIC, but I have chosen not to. The exception is in the Text Glossing, where it is done by invoking rules. If you put in "乗っ取れる", it says: Possible inflected verb or adjective: (potential or imperative) 乗っ取る 乗っ取る(P); 乗っとる 【のっとる】 (v5r,vt) to capture ... I think that's about as far as one can go. |

Comments: | Thanks for the clarification. I was going to argue these senses shouldn't be included because it's a conjugation for only a limited set of verb classes (一段 and する/くる?) and we don't have similar entries for -そう, -とう, etc. which should be equally valid... but I realized these senses are actually included in daijs' and daijr's よう entries and we do actually have an entry for "た" ("indicates past tense") in JMDict as well. _ My preference would still be to follow GG5's example to not include these senses and also not have an entry for た, but I guess that'd be a topic for the mailing list instead of the comment section of this one entry. _ In the meanwhile, I've tried improve the 3 senses because I don't think the definitions/notes were very clear. I've moved the previous glosses into usage notes and added actual glosses. To what extent the glosses are helpful, I'm not sure, but until the separate issue of glossless senses are resolved, maybe this will do. I also moved the previous sense 1 to sense 3 as I think it's the least common aux-v usage (if that's indeed the correct PoS). _ "verb stem" - is this the right term? I forget |
