Comments: | I agree with Marcus. Any gairaigo can be written in hiragana. I don't see a reason to include hiragana readings unless they're particularly common. |
|
4. | A* 2018-05-28 10:15:48 Marcus Richert <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | Does having the totally non-standard hiragana readings included as readings really add anything to this entry? It gets less than 1% of the katakana numbers (in the ngram numbers quoted). Wouldn't most of our gairaigo entries end up having hiragana readings, if that's the only basis for including it? I'm not 100% opposed to ever adding a hiragana reading to a gairaigo entry but I certainly don't think this is it. |

All pretty weak evidence, but I asked a native informant (Osakan, in her 30's) and she wasn't even aware that the word could be pronounced "かせんしき" and couldn't recall ever hearing it pronounced like that (even on TV). Comments: | No idea why it's not in the KM n-grams. It's very odd - そうした中 gets over 7k, but none with a following kana, whereas in the Google n-grams the most common following patterns start with kana, with で at the front. I hope it wasn't a processing glitch. Anyway, I can find 100s of live examples in WWW passages, and AFAICT "meanwhile" fits them, so I think it can stay. |
