Comments: | OK, so it means "when used with verb in the affirmative, it's especially common as どうも~しまう" I get (now) what the note is trying to convey, but considering the sense is most commonly accompanied by a negated verb (daijr even makes a note of it: "(多く打ち消しの語を伴って)"), I think it's overly confusing. Out of the 10 example sentences for this sense in daij and GG5, only 2 are not with negated verbs, but neither is in the form of どうも~しまう(gg5 "どうもねえ" and daijr "どうも失敗ばかりする") |

Comments: | I took it to mean that in spite of xxxx it still happened. Using line breaks shouldn't matter in the "Meanings" box, but it seems at the moment they are a problem. Better just to keep typing and let the browser fold the text. |

Comments: | sense 5, again: "in positive sense, esp. どうも〜しまう" What does "in positive sense" mean here? _ Also, the odd character seems to get inserted whenever a line is too long to be displayed without an enter break in the "meanings" box, for me. This never happened before, might it have something to do with a recent update or something? (I'm using Chrome/Win 10) |

▶ trigon (ancient triangular harp) ▶ sambuca |
2. | A 2018-05-28 01:35:21 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | The "sackbut" confusion apparently originated in the King James Bible which (mis)translated an Aramaic word for harp as sackbut. I cannot find the offending translation in GG5 - I checked it online, on my CD edition and even in the paper version. The リーダーズ+プラス entry for trigon has "-n 三角琴, サンブカ (=sackbut, sambuca, sambuke)". |

|
Comments: | According to the English dictionaries I checked, a trigon is a type of harp whereas a sackbut is a type of trombone. Looking at the kanji, 三角琴 has to refer to the former but GG5 mentions trombones for some reason. To add the confusion, Wiktionary writes in its trigon entry "Also called sackbut". I'm going to assume GG5 made a mistake. |

Comments: | I propose splitting 並行 and 平行/併行 into separate entries. They only share one sense and when someone looks up 平行, the first sense they'll see is sense 2, which is usually written 並行. I also think it would be a good idea to have separate [adj-na] and [n,vs] senses for sense 3 (so we can have "running parallel" as a gloss). Doing this here would be messy. Finally, I see no reason not to use noun glosses for senses 1 and 2. |
