Comments: | But the first gloss for 興奮 is "excitement", not "to excite", which makes it a lot less ambiguous. I might be wrong but I have a feeling most users without previous knowledge of the word would assume the vs here incorrectly means "to bother (sb)" while most people would not misunderstand 興奮. It might be possible to solve this by changing the glosses around somehow, but I think a large part of the ambiguousness is in the Japanese word itself, not the translations. |

7. | A* 2018-04-25 13:35:46 Robin Scott <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | I feel this would probably be clear from context. 興奮する means "to be excited" rather than "to excite (someone)" but we don't have a separate [vs] sense to make this explicit. There are probably countless of examples like this. |

If we were, we might be adding 50 more forms to our entry for みだれる, for example. https://w.atwiki.jp/kanjidego/pages/71.html >> 乱れる、芜れる、紛れる、狼れる、潰れる、蕪れる、撓れる、撩れる、悖れる、蚩れる、紊れる、紜れる、訌れる、釠れる、溃れる、惷れる、溷れる、猾れる、亂れる、愂れる、厐れる、庞れる、駭れる、飚れる、濫れる、擾れる、龎れる、龐れる、攘れる、飆れる、飇れる、飙れる、飈れる、飊れる、忞れる、𢿢れる、𭢯れる、𢺕れる、瞀れる、溷れる、殽れる、棼れる、挐れる、戕れる、忞れる、惛れる、慁れる I only see the first three forms for かるた in my dictionaries. Comments: | This was discussed on the show "Getsuyou kara Yofukashi". There's a supermarket somewhere in the boondocks that uses this as a slogan but the show made fun of the fact that this could be read either way. They then proceeded to talk to the manager and asked him if they had different products and whether they had them or not, he replied "ないものはない". He finished with "日本語は便利ですね~" |

But remarks by senior officials during the congress showed that Mr. Kim was using the rare political gathering to rally the party behind his so-called “byungjin” policy. On Saturday, Mr. Kim said that policy was not a temporary step but his party’s “permanent strategic line.” The byungjin — or “parallel advance” — policy calls for stockpiling nuclear weapons in the belief that the deterrent would allow the country to focus on economic recovery.
