DIJG says that when the preceding verb is transitive, っぱなし "means that someone does something to X and leaves X as it is without putting it back to its original state, which is not the proper way." When the preceding verb is transitive, っぱなし "means that something or something keeps doing something."
Prog and wisdom split along these lines.
Dropping spec1 from the kanji form.

It's irrelevent whether or not the definition is the same as what general public thinks. Terms of a niche within a niche are often misunderstood anyway. People who create (and consume) within a niche should determine the definition. Furthermore, There is another important difference. Lolicon is strictly sexual attracted to females, while pedophilia could be sexual attraction to both sexes, male or female. Lastly, you don't have to be male to be a lolicon, as there are popular (Japanese) female influencers calling themselfs a lolicon.

I'll accept that pedophile/pedophilia are probably accurate glosses, but I note that the JEs avoid that term. I suspect that in Japan there is a view that lolicon and pedophilia are slightly different things, but if you look at the actual definition of pedophilia, they are really the same.
Is there a problem with including "sexual obsession with young girls" in the glosses?

I don't mind "attraction" over "obsession" or "prebubescent" over "young" but I'm not seeing the point of adding rare words like "gynephilic" to secondary glosses (as this meaning is already obvious from the second gloss). It's true a woman could flippantly call herself a "lolicon" despite not being a man but that's true for a lot of gendered language/words and without qualifiers, I don't think anybody would ever assume this word refers to anything but a man.

sexual obsession doesn't make much sense, kokugos tend to use 性愛の対象 which is closer to sexual attraction
using "young girls" (or "very young girls" by gg5) seems pretty euphemistic, kokugos do use 少女 which is ambiguous but nobody would use ロリコン for someone attracted to a 17yo girl. + they often do add 幼女 to be more clear, so prepubescent is a better rendering in my opinion.
"gynephilic" (or a synonym) is needed because "pedophile" alone implies that ロリコン could be someone sexually attracted to prepubescent boys as well which is not the case.
i guess "esp. male" is the most controversial change. i think this image of ロリコン is due to the male-dominated otaku culture (and most pedophiles being male). it's fair to include it, but it doesn't seem *necessary* to be a ロリコン which is probably why many kokugos don't mention it all.
22. A* 2023-10-12 00:27:06  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
Given the extensive discussion last year about edits to this entry, I think case should be made for these proposed changes. Justification for the inclusion of gynephilic is needed.

REGIONAL NOTE:
in AM, usually use dead end
  Comments:
Maybe drop "cul-de-sac"? I can't speak to British speakers' attachment to it... I've moved it to the end of the list, at least.

There are some cases where it would be nice if we could identify dialect-specific glosses, especially where a gloss is likely to be misunderstood in other dialects. I thought "cul-de-sac" was a mistake, but apparently it's BrE. (Or, perhaps, non-American English).

I've never seen anything I would call a "cul-de-sac" in Japan (big round circle of pavement, maybe with an island in the middle, surrounded by houses with lawns, where you can easily turn around a vehicle). Precisely the kind of thing that comes back from a google image search. That makes this a silly gloss if your audience includes Americans. Apparently in BrE it's just a synonym for dead-end.

I'm OK having this as an entry (and prob. あの道 and この道) but I don't think the 2nd sense should be there. Either we do every single
sense from 道, or we do just one, or we're being misleading. If it really must be kept, I think the note must go. What does "usual
meaning" mean? I have my doubts it's actually "usual" as in "more common." But if it were, why isn't it sense 1? I think small
inconsistencies like these makes the dictionary harder to use.
14. A 2020-06-20 00:44:19  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
Probably time to call it a day on this one. I'm leaving it in largely because of its presence in the JEs. I'm also leaving in the "usual meaning" because I'm aware this is primarily a decoding/passive dictionary and there's a risk that learners might think sense 1 is the only meaning of the expression.
I see that GG5 also has この道 entry referencing the same sense of 道 (but not one for あの道.) [Daijr has a この道 entry too; for the 1927 song "この道はいつか来た道".]

Rene put this in in 2007 as "polite word formed by prefixing "o-" or "-go" to its base"
Paul Blay edited it to the current gloss, and commented:
美化語 does not refer just to adding o-, go- to base words.
Take the 大辞林 reference quoted ...
敬語の一種で、言葉遣いを上品にするもの。「お米」「おいしい」など。
おいしい may have historically come from いしい but that isn't directly relevant to 美化語 usage in modern Japanese. Rather it is a word with a more classy feel than, say, うまい. (As 広辞苑 says on おいしい - 「うまい」よりも上品な語). Similarly おなか, ごはん involve use of different vocabulary not just adding 御 to make existing words in use in modern Japanese more 'polite'.
Also not all words with o-, go- added count as 美化語, if they're added to words related to the state of the person being talked to (that person's in-group, etc.), items belonging to that person etc. then they are 尊敬語. 美化語 refers to changes made to speech, writing, to make it more elegant/polite without directly relating to any up/down honorific/humble divides.

Well that wasn't my recollection. We discussed it in Sep/Oct last year, and I updated the Editorial Guidelines after that. See: http://www.edrdg.org/wiki/index.php/Editorial_policy#General
"on occasions the usual translation may be a bit opaque, and a more complete explanation would be helpful. In this case add a more explanatory gloss with "[expl]" in front of it. Keep these to a minimum (it's a dictionary; not an encyclopedia.) The "[expl]" tag is usually not used if it is the only gloss in the sense. "
The reason for the "expl" was distinguish between glosses that were translations
Since in this case "Koi-Koi" gets an English Wikipedia page, we can probably make that a gloss, and then an "expl" tag is appropriate.

there should be an lsrc or a note because without one the style of entry we use immediately suggests that it is either from english or japanese.

however, it seems entirely possible that this is from japanese. a quick google search suggests it appears to be just some stereotype of chinese people trying to speak japanese and ending all of their sentences in aru because they don't know how to speak japanese properly?

it's not clear to me that its stereotypical usage in manga, etc. is really related to the pidgin (info here: https://www.icge.co.uk/languagesciencesblog/?p=315). if it is, then it should be mentioned in a note; if not and it's actually just indicating improper usage of japanese, then we don't need an lsrc.

that's my take

Why does there "need" to be a lsrc? We don't have evidence it's actually from Chinese.

side of the dual-track policy."

"North Korea had previously made similar threats and
claims about its nuclear capabilities. But remarks by
senior officials during the congress showed that Mr. Kim
was using the rare political gathering to rally the
party behind his so-called “byungjin” policy. On
Saturday, Mr. Kim said that policy was not a temporary
step but his party’s “permanent strategic line.”

The byungjin — or “parallel advance” — policy calls for
stockpiling nuclear weapons in the belief that the
deterrent would allow the country to focus on economic
recovery. "

Perhaps this is neutral enough.
We have Lolita and the novel in JMnedict. I'm not sure Daijirin has this right. From what I'm seeing on WWW pages it could well be the name of a "girly" style of clothing.
I suggest changing ロリ to match.

(daijs, gg5 etc. only have the novel)
  Comments:
Lolita is defined in 英英 dictionaries available online
as "precociously seductive girl", "sexually precocious
girl", but daijr's definition is actually "あどけない"
e.g. innocent. They use it together with 女の子 rather
than the initial "少女" though which I guess is slightly
more ambiguous than 少女 and can also be translated as
"childish young woman".
_
Though the origin is the same, "Lolita" might actually
not be a good translation of ロリータ, since there
doesn't seem to be any nuance of precociousness, but
possibly the opposite... but this is just what Daijr
says though, I'm not sure how the actual usage looks
like.
