Comments: | It gets quite a few hits but so does "ゴルフする". I don't think it's a standard expression. Googits for コーラスをする are nearly 10x that of コーラスする. Not too bothered in this instance but the kokugo dictionaries are usually the best guide for [vs] usage. |

Comments: | I misunderstood Johan's number to come from the Kyoto/Melbourne N-gram Corpus, so I assumed this form was more common than it actually is. Still, 59k in the k/m ngrams is nothing to scoff at. I don't really think there's an issue with including ご/ お compounds merely based on them being very common? "... then there are probably dozens of words we could add." Let's add them, then. |
|
8. | A* 2018-03-28 11:13:49 Robin Scott <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | For 〜的 and ~性 compounds, I agree but the unwritten policy on ご〜/お〜 entries that we've been following up till now seems to work quite well. Typically, we don't accept ご〜/お〜 entries (that aren't listed in dictionaries) unless they satisfy at least one of the following two conditions. 1. The word is more commonly used with ご/お than without (e.g. お湯). 2. The ご/お version has a different or more restricted meaning (e.g. お会計). If a ご/お compound merely has to be common to warrant inclusion then there are probably dozens of words we could add. |

Comments: | but "Korean" plays the same role in "Korean person" as in "Korean national" - if it can refer to both Koreas in "... person", can't it in "... national" too? I feel the citizenship part is very important. This is often the only way these people really are Korean - by citizenship. Linguistically, culturally, they're often entirely Japanese. Some are not even fully ethnically Korean but half-Japanese but still "Zainichi Korean" by virtue of their passport. |

Comments: | I see the 39 Tanaka sentences are from 45 for よくあること. I suggest pulling this back to the much more common よくあること. I'll change the sequence number so that it won't have the wrong sound clip. If approved, I'll fix the Tatoeba indices. |
