Comments: | personally, i don't think "masturbation", which is a perfectly inoffensive word (and the ~~preferred~~ term for the action), should qualify for an "X". if "X" is to mean anything (and I'm not sure what really does keep it apart from "vulg"), I think it should be limited to terms for which the english glosses belong to a well-known list of bad words (e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_dirty_words#The_words) rather than concepts that may make some people feel uncomfortable (e.g., someone else may complain that a certain sense of ホモ is not suitable for educational software. |

Comments: | This entry =+it's ~がよい and ~のよい versions are all quite a mess. _ Jitsuyo only lists one sense. I'm not sure what "spreading well" (prev sense 1) is supposed to mean, so I removed it. I think sense 3, "easy to get into" is wrong - the usage in ノリのいい曲 (see the music-book ref above) seems to mean "upbeat" or "happy" or "uplifting". I'm not sure it needs to be a separate sense (but I've kept it as such). _ The headword in jitsuyo is "ノリが良い" but they only offer the reading いい, not よい. Daij also list 良い as a kanji for いい. Ultimately I think we should merge this and all the other ~いい/~よい splits back (I've taken up this on the mailing list) but either way, I think 良い should be included here. |

Comments: | I think it's helpful. Certainly not immediately understandable from its constituent parts. Not sure I agree it's euphemistic though? Is "violence behind closed doors" a euphemism? You're not masking the "violence" part, so I think not. Also not sure it's really uncommon enough to tag as [obsc]. |

8. | A 2019-08-21 04:45:38 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | I've been aware of the colour scheme since my first visit to Japan in 1981. My point is that JR's decision to put the livery colour into the name of the place doesn't really relate to the English meaning. I don't mind adding literal translations of quirky terms, but one shouldn't go too far. I wouldn't add "[lit] little red" to 赤ちゃん, for example. |

Comments: | Well, looking at Google Images, there is always a prominent green element in the signage for these. Knowing that it's literally "green" would help users of the dictionary make the connection. |
