Refs: | (1) http://wakamatsublog.blog73.fc2.com/category3-13.html This is the oldest useful reference found, in an old blog apparently kept by Kaneshige Wakamatsu (now House of Councillors). The expression is mentioned in a transcript of a Komeito party management committee meeting 2003.07.10 by Toshiko Hamayotsu (House of Concillors 1992-2010): (2)http://atsso.asablo.jp/blog/2009/09/08/4568673 In a blog about words, the writer reports on a new expression used by some Jiminto (LDP) insiders (3) https://twitter.com/hashtag/下駄の雪?lang=ja The expression has a hashtag on Twitter (4) https://mainichi.jp/sunday/articles/20171106/org/00m/070/001000d Used in a question by Mainichi journalist. 「… Comments: | I have made up the meaning, as there are no translations or definitions I could find. The literal meaning seems to be that snow gets stuck between the tongues of the geta. It slows one's progress, but the more one stomps on it, the more it hangs on. The expression seems to have been a political in-joke, with only occasional references in the news. I could not find any dictionary entries. It does not appear to be used in any other context than Komeito. I could not find any kotowaza. 23,000 occurences in a google search. Sorry for the long story. I found it an interesting expression and tried to get enough to support an entry, since I could not find it in any dictionary. |
