Although this is one sense in Japanese, English uses different words depending on whether the subject of the sentence is a person or the thing that brings about happiness.

In the サラリーマン entry, "salaryman" is tagged as
wasei. I think it could be tagged both as wasei and be a
gloss, as it does see some usage in English, but the two
entries should at least be aligned. I don't think the
fact it's only a prefix/suffix changes it's an
abbreviation. The [abbr] tag is a good etymology
indicator, if nothing else.

This is only ever used as suffix/prefix so I wouldn't describe it as an abbreviation. These x-refs are more helpful.

I agree, but for better or worse, in the past we've used

The 国際 entry is also tagged as an adj-no, and it's
worth noting that Kenkyusha's dictionaries (prog, gg5,
chujiten) all avoid giving any actual translation of the
word outside its use in compounds/as 国際的 etc.

I think an important point is that if ドライビング③ can
only ever be used with that meaning in a compound such
as ドライビングフォース, is it really a noun by itself?
9. A* 2018-02-15 21:40:09  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I don't think the gloss has to match the PoS tag in all cases. It only makes sense to have an adjective gloss for 国際 (a noun), for instance.
I'm fine with [adj-f] here though.
8. A* 2018-02-15 04:39:30  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
The problem is we don't have a suitable *Japanese* POS for it. In this case "driving" is sometimes called a gerundive, not that English really has them. I'd prefer "adj-f". I know driving per se is not a verb, but it is derived from one.

I think having recent political scandals in
jmdict would be a little weird, at least when
the scandal isn't really referred to by
specific word but just a description that's
not more than the sum of its parts.

Scandals as [ev]ent is a little weird but I
guess it kind of fits?
