jitsuyo:
一般的には、「ドラッグ」の誤りと考えられる。「ドラッグ」と言った時には主に、薬物を意味する英語を指すか、あるいはマウスの操作の一つで、ボタンを押したまま
マウスを動かすことを指すことが多い。前者の綴りは「drug」、後者の綴りは「drag」である。

saw this for "drag your file here" on a pretty major printing website.

splitting out the 2 "drag"'s based on different etym.

  Comments:
Added cross-dressing sense. Judging from Google results, ドラァグ always refers to this sense. Instead of adding ドラァグ to this entry, we could create a new ドラァグ entry with an x-ref pointing here.
I think the drug senses should come first. They're definitely the most common.
I don't think we need a general "drag" sense. As far as I can tell, it's always used in a computing context. Also, "to highlight" was too specific.

Yes, you're right. It's the post itself
that "goes up in flames", not its author.
I think "Internet pitchfork mob" is a good
keyword/key phrase to include in a gloss

phenomenon.

Not necessarily harassment. Usually it's a thing (article, statement, policy, etc.) that does the 炎上ing.
How about "stirring up a storm of criticism online"? I think it's an improvement on the gloss I came up with last year.

I like that, and have attempted to weave it in. The person who entered the original in 2006 was translating the Japanese Wikipedia page, and noted:
"I did my best to translate the meaning, but it's not one of those words that has a single clear translation. Personally I think it would be better to have some sort of translation available, but will not be offended in any way if you decide that this entry is too wishy-washy and delete it."
Shortly after that Kanji Haitani entered the 閑寂枯淡 entry, using the same gloss. I think they should be aligned if this is accepted.

  Comments:
Yes, entries like this one are tricky because I agree we should be careful not to screw things up for people using jmdict for text
glossing (with tools like rikai-chan, etc.)
Sense 2 is tricky because really the "you" should be within the brackets too, probably (the subject could be a third person)
I'm not sure sense 1 is an "abbreviation" of sense 2, really. I mean you could argue that it's "何だと言った?" but I'm not convinced.
If there was an eloquent way to phrase a note on sense 1 to explain the phrase only has this meaning when it's not used as a sub
clause (not sure of the terminology here)...

... so daij both have が entries, but は seems more common in the wild. daijs 右に出る entry also has a は example: 「囲碁なら彼の右に出
る者はいない」 . GG5 has several examples in different entries, all with は
  Comments:
I've changed it to the most common surface form, but if we wanted to, this could be four entries, with が instead of は and いない
instead of ない.
(then again we already have 右に出る by itself, so this should probably be enough).
The note can probably be trimmed.
