Comments: | I'm not entirely opposed to the idea, but I'm not really sure what's at stake. The form isn't completely hidden, just moved to a note. We've used this style on quite a few entries recently. See 1164780 (一挺), 1167270 (一旒), 1299600 (杜鵑花), 1260670 (因・もと), 1588320 (撮す), etc. Since this is a policy decision that affects many entries, it would be best to have this discussion on github or the mailing list. |

I don't think the glosses for sense 03 ("to take up (a topic, etc.); to deal with; to treat") correctly capture the meaning of the corresponding sense in the kokugos. Meikyo 3e: ③[取]特に取り立てて問題にする。「欠陥商品を━・げて糾弾する」「弱点を━・げて非難する」 Shinsen 10e: ⑥特別に問題とする。「━ほどのものでない」 Sankoku 8e: ④問題と〈する/してあつかう〉。「大きく━・━必要のない問題」 I am proposing that we gloss this sense with something like "to take issue with; to make a problem of; to bring up (as a point of criticism)" Meikyo 2e has the 採 form for this sense, but the third edition dropped it. I think we can make 採り上げる a hidden form and add a note to sense 02, which is where most refs put it. I wouldn't object to splitting it into a separate entry either. |

Comments: | Of all the references I checked (JES & Kokugos) only Meikyo mentioned 採り上げる. GG5 has sense 2 for 取り上げる so that "esp." looks rather doubtful. Also, the JEs have 4 senses which I think works well. I think the 7 senses is overdoing it. I'd be OK with making 採り上げる [sK], goin back to 4 senses, and stripping out all the notes and restrictions. |

Comments: | I think this has got right away from Hendrik's 2010 entry for と見られる. I can see と見られる in heaps of places, including in Eijiro sentences, GG5 examples, Tanaka sentences, etc. I think it is better to leave the と見られる entry pretty much as it was, probably changing it "often preceded by a verb", and add a new entry for 見られる alone. |

Comments: | I won't lose any sleep if it's kept but I'm with Marcus on this one. If every use of a word is accompanied by an explanation of its meaning, it's not a real Japanese word. There are plenty of English language articles that mention 和製英語 terms but you won't find them in an English dictionary unless they're used in English (e.g. salaryman). I think we should apply the same standard here with 英製和語 terms. |

|
Comments: | 6 years later but I've got to say it's still obvious to me that this shouldn't be an entry. It's demonstrably not a Japanese word -- only an English one. As far as Google can tell us, it was only ever used by English speakers in English in Japan, never in Japanese by Japanese speakers, outside of an extremely limited amount of commenting on said usage by English speakers in Japan. I'm not saying (and wasn't saying) that it couldn't be possible for a reverse 和製英語 (英製和語?) thing to happen where a word minted by foreigners in Japan ends up entering the Japanese language - I'm just saying it clearly didn't happen here. The usage of the word among non-Japanese was merely *discussed* in Japanese. That doesn't mean it was ever *used* in Japanese. |
