I did manage to find an example of 異称 referring to a person's name but I still don't agree with those glosses.
"異名を取る" gets 331k googits; "異称を取る" gets 9. They're not used in the same way.

乗車 refers to the act of getting onto/into a vehicle whereas "take" means "to use a form of transport".
乗車 would not be used to say something like "You'll get there faster if you take the train".

The same rule should apply here as to 摂氏/セ氏. It would be nice to treat them the same as カ氏/華氏, which can be merged because the reading is the same. (We have similar issues with entries where the reading can contain っ for emphasis.)
To be frank, I find it hard come to a firm conclusion here. I suspect it's a case where strict 2/3 can be bent a little, but I could go the other way too.
