AIUI 剥 and 剝 are essentially two variants of the same kanji and the はぐ reading is OK for both. The entry for 剥がす/剝がす does not have an equivalent restriction, incidentally. Comments: | I've previously suggested on the mailing list that expl glosses should be "wordier replacements" that can work in place for the original gloss - though there wasn't much (any?) response to this suggestion. In this case, I guess that means an expl here would read something like "Japan should forget about Asia and align itself in the West". Again, if other editors thought this was a good idea... |

Comments: | I don't agree with (old) sense 2 and I'd drop those glosses entirely. There's nothing in the kanji or definitions about "acting" or "following rules". Looking at examples online, I see two types of usage. The first aligns with 実用日本語表現辞典's definition: "自分自身で物事について考え、判断することをやめてしまうことを意味する語。多くは批判的に用いられる語である。思考停止が起こる理由としては、何らかの要因により、権威や規範などに盲目的に従ってしまうことなどが挙げられる" The second is seen in sentences like "眠くて、思考停止していました". I don't agree with the [col] tag. It's easy to find examples in formal contexts. Finally, a "brain freeze" is something you get when eating cold food. Doesn't belong here. |

Comments: | I am having a hard time finding easy-to-read references for this. There are two units in a mahjong hand's score: the fu and the han. Each yaku in the hand has a han value, which are summed together to get the hand's final han value. If han value is < 5, the formula is fu * 2 ^ (han + 2), rounded up to the nearest 100 points. If han value >= 5, the hand is worth mangan / haneman / baiman etc. points. This value is not quite the final score, but depends on the method of win (tsumo or ron) and the player (east or not). It is generally multiplied by 4 or 6 depending on those two factors. Most people just use a chart for this. See also entries 1915790 and 2754210. |
