Comments: | How about this? As far as I can tell, sense 1 is [vs] without exception. I don't think there should be an separate "exciting" sense because the feeling described here is the same whether you're nervous or excited - it's about being on edge. You wouldn't use はらはら to describe the excitement a child feels upon being told he's going to Disneyland. |

|
Comments: | I think the old "exciting; thrilling" sense is needed, either as part of sense 1 or in its own sense. 心配 can mean "suspense" and I think 成り行きを心配して気 needs to be seen in that context. 8 of the 11 Tanaka sentences using はらはら are about being excited; not necessarily anxious. |

Comments: | The addition of 伏せる to this entry has set up an overlap with 1500220. It's upset the examples for 伏せる because they get linked here as well. 臥せる/ふせる is not that common, and using 伏せる for this meaning is quite rare (which is why the JEs ignore it.) What I'm proposing to do is: - remove 伏せる from here; - add an extra sense in 1500220 - "to lie down; to retire; to go to bed (with an illness)" with xrefs to/from here. It's not the way kokugos do it, but it will be unambiguous and stop messing up the examples. |

Comments: | Pretty much any Japanese word can be written in katakana. I think we should only include the katakana if it is reasonably common. I don't think ケイサツカン qualifies. |
|
6. | A* 2017-08-02 01:54:07 Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
Comments: | Some non-JMdict sites using ケイサツカン: http://aaaaaa.co.jp/job/?p=152 https://www.no-ichigo.jp/read/book/book_id/620525 http://dic.nicovideo.jp/a/ザ・警察官 etc. Note that it's not a reading of 警察官; it's more an alternative written form. Frankly I don't care too much whether it's there or not. I'll just note that without it WWWJDIC's text-glossing will not handle it in katakana. |
|
5. | A* 2017-08-01 14:43:14 Mark Gaensicke <...address hidden...>
Comments: | I'm posting this edit for the sake of clarification and better understanding the Japanese language: The (alternative) reading ケイサツカン is uncommon and was deleted, then re-added to this entry before. I searched Google for any uses of it but only other sites using JMdict data came up. Google suggested the kanji word as search term. It would be good to state the marginal usage of this katakana reading to avoid confusion. Thank you! |

Comments: | This really only applies in Japan, where the party (esp. the LDP) elects a president who is also the PM if the party is in government. In other countries the roles of party president and parliamentary leader usually separate. |
