I think "和製用法" denotes that the usage (i.e. meaning) of the term (as opposed to the term itself) is "Japanese-made". "Claimer" is an English word; it just doesn't have this meaning.
We wouldn't usually call something like this "wasei", but then again, クレーマー probably comes from クレーム+er rather than "claimer", which isn't an especially common word.

I think I like Alan's original version better.

I suspect this was used figuratively from the very beginning so one sense is probably enough.

It's not a brand. It is an appelation, i.e. it denotes the region where the wine is made.
The French appelation system is quite complex with 15 main regions (Bourdeaux, Bourgogne, Champagne, Jura, ...), and many sub-regions and sub-sub-regions.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a sub-region of the Rhône wine region.
It is one of the most famous appelations.

I agree; it's a place name and a brand of wine (we opened a bottle  recently for a birthday.) I think it's OK having grape varieties here, along with regional terms like champagne and burgundy, but not specific wine labels.
