Comments: | The hiding of a form and just having a note is usually when it's usually a less common alternative way of writing that sense. Here a cannabis/marijuana sense would almost always be written クサ. If it's not visible, it should be in its own entry. I'll close this to shorten the queue and reopen for a bit. |

Comments: | Some 脇芽 at least are also commonly called "suckers" in the case of tomatoes. 脇 may be doing double-duty here. With the meaning "side" it could be any lateral offshoot from the main stem. Given the "armpit", it rather plainly matches the definition of "sucker" which is a small offshoot that sprouts at the joint of a larger offshoot. (pictures make clear). The is another term that wordreference as for "sucker", which is 吸枝. This actually seems like a rather uncommon translation by comparison. |

Comments: | Usually plural in english in common use. Could make singular, but that would look odd. This term is far more common-looking than in Japanese than [bot] or the previous glosses would suggest. Anyone growing tomatoes or vegetables at home might be familiar with this. I'm not sure [bot] is even required here. There is some overlap with broccolini (thin broccoli shoots).わき芽型 |

Comments: | I don't agree with (old) sense 2 and I'd drop those glosses entirely. There's nothing in the kanji or definitions about "acting" or "following rules". Looking at examples online, I see two types of usage. The first aligns with 実用日本語表現辞典's definition: "自分自身で物事について考え、判断することをやめてしまうことを意味する語。多くは批判的に用いられる語である。思考停止が起こる理由としては、何らかの要因により、権威や規範などに盲目的に従ってしまうことなどが挙げられる" The second is seen in sentences like "眠くて、思考停止していました". I don't agree with the [col] tag. It's easy to find examples in formal contexts. Finally, a "brain freeze" is something you get when eating cold food. Doesn't belong here. |
