I've had a go at redoing the glosses for sense 4 based on my experiences with the word as well as this rather nice definition in 実用日本語表現辞典:

It probably needs to be stated upfront in the editorial policy, but EDICT & JMdict have always catered to a certain extent for E-J searches by including terms which otherwise may not be included. Years ago I explored ways of making this aspect work better, e.g. flagging useful instances of words like "house", which appears as a gloss in many entries. It all got too hard.
