Comments: | Hi, I noticed that the word "nation" had been removed from this entry. I do not contest that it is confusing, but I am not quite sure a user of this dictionary would get the correct impression from this entry now. It would be quite important to state that the sense of the word "people" used here is the one that (in English) can be used in the plural ("peoples"}. Keeping "nation" would be one way to achieve that. I have added the word "folk" here, hoping to give a similar effect. At least in fantasy fiction, it is often quite accurate. For example, I have captured this screenshot from a game: https://i.imgur.com/VLUxfl3.png The word as used in thescreenshot could alternatively be translated as "tribe" too. I cannot say anything about the two other translations given because I have not come across the word often elsewhere. I hope this is all right with you. |

Comments: | "School" here refers to pre-tertiary education. (Sense 2 refers to university). Science lessons taken by middle/high school students are known by the name 理科 (as opposed to 科学). 理科 and 科学 aren't exactly synonymous which is why I don't think a single "science" gloss is sufficient. |

Comments: | NASA is a bit of a red herring. The Japanese say ジス for JIS and ジャスダック for JASDAQ. I think what we're seeing here is a sort of 義訓. People see TV and think テレビ, but like Rene I think it's too much to call テレビ a reading. I can accept 田舎 being read いなか, and (worse) 啄木鳥 being read けら, but merging テレビ into TV/ティーブイ it's a step too far. How about a two-way xref with notes? I'll set one up here, and it can be used with OP if accepted. |
