6. | A 2017-11-13 07:23:45 Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | as i recall, steven pinker is picky about things like "generally, this is not a problem", which he advises against, as opposed to "this is generally not a problem", which he says is okay. (as i recall, he think that starting a sentence with an adverb doesn't make sense, at least not in the way intended.) so i guess you could make an argument for two senses, but i don't see it |

Robin, can you look at http://www.edrdg.org/cgi-bin/wwwjdic/wwwjdic?1Q̤_0__ and indicate a couple of examples for each sense? |

Comments: | I propose dropping 滅り込む completely. It was a mistake. Here is what I wrote in the old update system in early 2010: "Scott suggested adding 滅り込む, which is in GG5 and the Progressive. I am very suspicious of that 滅, as it's not in 広辞苑i, 大辞林, etc. and it gets low Googits. I emailed a GG5 editor at Kenkyusha, and he replied that it is indeed an error, and they'll change it shortly. It seemed that earlier editions had just めり込む, and when they added the kanji, they picked the wrong one. Maybe the Progressive people did the same?" I should have dropped it in 2010. It's no longer in GG5. |

Comments: | I really don't think we can expect our users to understand that "as たって" (or "as ~たって") is supposed to refer to a verb in the past tense +って. I think we should be explicit. Also, I think we should get rid of the たって entry, even if it's in the kokugos. I don't think it makes sense in a wa-ei dictionary. I'd much rather we covered that use here. I don't think anybody encountering [past tense verb]+って is likely to arrive at that entry rather than this one. __ I think "indicates supposition" was a bad take (it was mine). |
