"stepsister" in various EJs:
リーダーズ+プラス: 継父[継母]の娘
新英和大辞典: 継(まま)父[母]の連れ子, (父[母]の再婚による)義理の姉[妹]
新英和中辞典: まま姉妹《まま父[母]の前配偶者との間の女子
ルミナス英和辞典: stepparent の(連れ子である)娘
  Comments:
I'm not sure it's that good an idea. See the results from the EJs above. None of them use 義姉, 義妹, etc. Only one uses the 義 kanji, and that's in the vague "義理の姉".
I think we have to reflect that 義姉 means primarily "sister-in-law".
I'm suggesting that "step.." goes in a sense of its own, and tagged so that people won't think it's the usual term.

Would it be a good idea to just add a non-blood-related etc. gloss to all the 義etc. family member entries?
Because that's basically the second definition on the kotobank page, and it's the common thread between the different english glosses.

  Comments:
Personally, I don't think it's necessary to keep "shelved"/"stifled". It's not a separate meaning. "To see the light of day" and "to be realized" work perfectly well for negative sentences (see examples above).
6. D* 2019-10-18 02:23:54  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I'm keen to see the shelved/stifled meaning of the negative form retained somewhere. How about a second sense for the 日の目を見る entry along the lines of:
  <<in the negative>>
to be shelved; to be stifled; to remain obscure
Then this entry could comfortable be dispatched.
5. D* 2019-10-17 14:49:28  Marcus Richert <...address hidden...>

I agree with Robin. The entry is messy too, with verb glosses mixed in with the adjective glosses.

I think most of us regard it as one sense.
10. A* 2019-08-06 01:44:38  Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
just because the meaning for something doesn't match the first gloss doesn't mean that additional senses are needed. and it's not clear how additional senses would even help. if it's not clear which gloss in sense 1 a particular example matches, how would it immediately become clear if an example matches sense 1 or sense 2 if the glosses are split?

is there any support for multiple senses from any other source?

i still think this is just one sense, as per all sources i see
9. A* 2019-08-03 06:39:26  Marcus Richert <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
In the quoted sentence:
"同署は勤務管理の状況などについて、関係者から事情
を聴く方針。"
I agree it's an issue the first word
suggested for the 方針 here is "policy",
because it's wrong and could be
misunderstood to mean "the police have a
general policy of hearing everybody
involved" (which they probably do, but
that's not what the sentence says). If we
had two senses, we'd get around that.
8. A 2019-08-02 20:58:56  Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
i agree with Robin. all japanese dictionaries have this as a single sense, as does gg5. i don't see what splitting would really accomplish
7. A* 2019-07-31 13:08:23  Marcus Richert <...address hidden...>

Could we maybe split along the terms of "long-term" and "short term"? I.e. something like

plan (of action); course; direction
[2][n]
policy; objective; (guiding) principle

I saw ヨユー in a Line conversation, sense
1. I don't see any reason it wouldn't
apply to sense 2 as well, it's really just
a stylistic choice. I think I actually
agree with Robin though. You will find
similar variants of all words that are
common enough.

OTOH a 28,000 combined n-gram count is significant. If there's evidence that these forms are being used for 余裕 I'd include them, The trouble is that Googling for them and looking at the passages containing them doesn't provide me with evidence that they apply here.
8. A* 2019-05-09 00:51:56  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>

I've never seen 余裕 written like that. The n-gram counts are <1% that of 余裕. Probably not needed.

I propose we drop 壅がる. 壅 is not an old/variant form of 塞 and almost all WWW hits lead back here.

According to my kanji dictionary, 壅 is just one of 15 kanji that have been used over the centuries to write ふさぐ. I don't think this is what the [oK] tag was intended for.

Also, are the x-refs to 塞げる necessary? We don't (typically) do that with other transitive/intransitive pairs.
2. A 2012-05-28 23:28:51  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I see Daijr merges it with 鬱ぐ, but then explains the meanings differ according to the kanji. 新和英中辞典 has both a 塞ぐ entry and a 鬱ぐ/塞ぐ one.
I think what you are doing here is the cleanest way.

Definitely a few different ways these could be split.
Just saw this used as the depressed/mope sense, so I think having that in an entry instead of just a note on 鬱ぐ would be helpful.

Marcus commented on GitHub:
>> I think hiding away the type of rare or obscure kanji that are still included in one or two kokugos with [sK] rather than tagging them as [rK] can lead to confusion

This seems to be one such entry. I don't think there are too many others.

In addition to meikyo, "胎む" is also recorded in kanjipedia and gendai reikai. I don't think there's a problem with making it [rK].

You can find even more kanji forms (胚む・娠む・姙む・肧む) for this word if you look through various kanwas. I think we have to draw a line somewhere.

I don't think the suffix sense needs to go first just because it's more common.

I don't mind dropping "poles apart" and "wildly different".
Given that this expressions is used to emphasise the size/extent of a difference, I think "completely" should be in there somewhere.
I think "stand no comparison" is fine. It's idiomatic. Daijr even has "比べものにならない" in its definition for 桁が違う.
