Comments: | I'm not sure it's that good an idea. See the results from the EJs above. None of them use 義姉, 義妹, etc. Only one uses the 義 kanji, and that's in the vague "義理の姉". I think we have to reflect that 義姉 means primarily "sister-in-law". I'm suggesting that "step.." goes in a sense of its own, and tagged so that people won't think it's the usual term. |

Comments: | Personally, I don't think it's necessary to keep "shelved"/"stifled". It's not a separate meaning. "To see the light of day" and "to be realized" work perfectly well for negative sentences (see examples above). |

Comments: | In the quoted sentence: "同署は勤務管理の状況などについて、関係者から事情 を聴く方針。" I agree it's an issue the first word suggested for the 方針 here is "policy", because it's wrong and could be misunderstood to mean "the police have a general policy of hearing everybody involved" (which they probably do, but that's not what the sentence says). If we had two senses, we'd get around that. |

Comments: | I propose we drop 壅がる. 壅 is not an old/variant form of 塞 and almost all WWW hits lead back here. According to my kanji dictionary, 壅 is just one of 15 kanji that have been used over the centuries to write ふさぐ. I don't think this is what the [oK] tag was intended for. Also, are the x-refs to 塞げる necessary? We don't (typically) do that with other transitive/intransitive pairs. |
|
2. | A 2012-05-28 23:28:51 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | I see Daijr merges it with 鬱ぐ, but then explains the meanings differ according to the kanji. 新和英中辞典 has both a 塞ぐ entry and a 鬱ぐ/塞ぐ one. I think what you are doing here is the cleanest way. |

Marcus commented on GitHub: >> I think hiding away the type of rare or obscure kanji that are still included in one or two kokugos with [sK] rather than tagging them as [rK] can lead to confusion This seems to be one such entry. I don't think there are too many others. In addition to meikyo, "胎む" is also recorded in kanjipedia and gendai reikai. I don't think there's a problem with making it [rK]. You can find even more kanji forms (胚む・娠む・姙む・肧む) for this word if you look through various kanwas. I think we have to draw a line somewhere. |

Refs: | wisdom: 中国の領土の広さは日本とは桁が違う In terms of territory, there is no comparison between Japan and China. |
|
Comments: | I don't mind dropping "poles apart" and "wildly different". Given that this expressions is used to emphasise the size/extent of a difference, I think "completely" should be in there somewhere. I think "stand no comparison" is fine. It's idiomatic. Daijr even has "比べものにならない" in its definition for 桁が違う. I don't think a lit gloss is needed here. |
