|
Comments: | I'm not sure it's that good an idea. See the results from the EJs above. None of them use 義姉, 義妹, etc. Only one uses the 義 kanji, and that's in the vague "義理の姉". I think we have to reflect that 義姉 means primarily "sister-in-law". I'm suggesting that "step.." goes in a sense of its own, and tagged so that people won't think it's the usual term. |

Comments: | The same rule should apply here as to 摂氏/セ氏. It would be nice to treat them the same as カ氏/華氏, which can be merged because the reading is the same. (We have similar issues with entries where the reading can contain っ for emphasis.) To be frank, I find it hard come to a firm conclusion here. I suspect it's a case where strict 2/3 can be bent a little, but I could go the other way too. |

Comments: | I agree that "for" shouldn't be mandated in every single [exp, verb] entry, but I do like it in general because I'm really a big fan of consistency. Was the particular usage here really "clumsy"? To me, "for the skies to open up" looks natural and better than "the skies open up". I think I'm fine with mixing inf/non-inf glosses, on the other hand. |

8. | A 2018-06-17 05:52:10 Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
Comments: | For expressions of the form A が B-verb I don't thing there's any to make it an infinitive verb form. I don't think the "for .." approach should be mandated; sometimes it's rather clumsy. Whatever works, makes sense, etc. can be used. |
|
7. | A* 2018-06-15 16:13:50 Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
Comments: | How should we format glosses for expressions like this (that have a subject)? I'm not a fan of starting a gloss with "for ..." when it's impractical/impossible to use the infinitive marker. Is this better? And is it OK to mix infinitive glosses with non-infinitive glosses? |
