▶ is there anything else? |
7. | D 2023-04-06 00:22:58 Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
Comments: | Given that we have entries for 他に and 何か, I don't think there's much value in a 他に何か entry. The meaning is obvious and it's not usually a standalone expression. I think 他に何かある is too compositional. |
|
6. | D* 2023-04-04 13:43:33 Brian Krznarich <...address hidden...>
Refs: | Twitter results for 他に何かある https://twitter.com/search?q="他に何かある"&src=typed_query&f=live https://www.bizmates.jp/blog/sonota-eigo/ What else? 他の何か https://eigo.today/anything-else/ 他に何かありませんか Is there anything else? |
|
Comments: | A little late to the party, but I would have kept this too. Could have maybe made it: 他に何かある 7514 That's often the longer sentence. And the reader can conjugate (他に何かありますか、他に何かありませんか、etc.) I'm pretty sure in informal language 他に何か can stand alone in the same way. (just passing through looking for deleted entries to test jisho.org's behavior deletion behavior. If this vote makes no difference, don't mind me). |

3. | D* 2023-02-01 02:03:14 Robin Scott <...address hidden...>

Comments: | That third sense from daijisen describes household furnishings and tools rather than wealth or prestige. It's not in other refs (including daijr or koj), and the source is 宇津保物語 from the 10th century. Related idiomatic expressions like "かまどを起こす" look very rare (no n-gram hits for any of its variant form or inflections), but they're recorded in modern references like sankoku. I wouldn't argue against their inclusion. To me, the "fortune / prestige" sense still seems like a reductive interpretation of the (rare) idioms. I think it relies on the context. |

Comments: | the third sense is definitely derived from the second, but i still think it's worth keeping as otherwise stuff like "かまどを起こす" would be hard to understand (maybe i should make an entry for that as well, "かまどを分ける" seems intuitive enough on other hand) |
