Comments: | This keeps coming up - someone tried to add からだ as a reading to the 身体・しんたい entry in 2019. The JEs and Koj only have しんたい for 身体. The other kokugos list 身体 as a form for からだ but have it later than 体; which matches what we have. I don't propose to merge the entries again, but I'll suggest a note on the 身体・しんたい entry similar to the one on sense 1 here. |

Comments: | Rene, that note comes under the 3rd sense. There's no need to list (or even mention) ぱん because it's merely a rendaku reading. ばん, however, is the only valid reading for 版 (regardless of what comes before it) when used as a suffix in the first sense. Daijr even has an entry for ばん which redirects to はん (版). If I can't convince you to keep it in the list of readings, a note like the one I've written is an acceptable compromise. |

Comments: | I don't like splitting adj-na/n here because it's very inconsistent with how we usually format our entries. If we decided to always split out the various PoS (like GG5 does) that'd be one thing, but as we haven't, I don't really see how this is a special case that warrants splitting. On glossing a single sense like an adj-na or n, I don't have a strong opinion but I don't have an issue with basing it on the most common usage. I do feel this is something that needs to be properly formalize in our editing guidelines though, instead of relying on editors being aware of "what we usually do in these cases." |

The Tamagozake is a Japanese cold remedy drink like how the hot toddy is in the United States. https://www.hirokoliston.com/egg-sake/ It’s a Japanese version of Eggnog, but it got to be hot. This alcoholic beverage is called ‘Tamago-zake’ in Japanese, and it is offered to anyone who have a cold, even children. My mother always made it for me when I had a cold |
|
Comments: | "eggnog" is one of these cultural "glosses of convenience". eggnog contains dairy (cream). tamagozake is not eggnog. "egg sake" appears in English references, but usually with tamagozake nearby. The "cold remedy" part is useful/important for interpreting Japanese literature. The cold-remedy aspect of the drink comes up frequently in English-language references.(some refs included) Note: "Japanese eggnog" doesn't work as a gloss. If you google this, you'll get recipes for actual eggnog using Japanese alcohol. I'd consider cramming "eggnog-like" in the [expl], but I don't actually think a beverage without cream is eggnog-like at all. Eggnog is usually served cold, is often alcohol free, is loaded with cream (&fat). You can't have alcohol-free tamagozake.... |
