Comments: | The term is frequent in the Naruto anime. Especially, episode 114 the term Ninja-gokko is used about 3-4 times. In Chouji’s childhood they were ”playing ninjas”. |

4. | A 2016-11-06 22:04:47 Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
Comments: | I agree with Rene. I don't think it's a free-standing noun. Daijirin tags it "接尾" and GG5 and the other JEs have "-ごっこ" as the headword, which is their POS-less way of indicating it's a suffix. |
|
3. | A* 2016-11-06 15:29:46 Johan Råde <...address hidden...>
Comments: | Not sure. A compound X + Y usually has the same PoS as Y. So if X + ごっこ is a noun, then ごっこ should be considered a noun. The problem is that we can can not distinguish between a noun that can be used as a suffix and noun that always is a suffix. --- How about [suf,n] for a noun that always is a suffix [n,suf] for a noun that can be used as a suffix |
|
2. | A* 2016-11-06 04:42:08 Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>

Comments: | We agreed not to hide [ok] readings. Our current policy is to keep using [ok] for readings described as "古くは..." in the kokugos, and to either drop the rest or move them to separate [arch]-tagged entries. The kokugos have "古くは「ばんぜい」" for 万歳/ばんざい so [ok] is appropriate here. But I also don't think there's much value in recording these readings so I wouldn't object to dropping it entirely. |

Comments: | I think I agree with Rene's 5 year old view that this entry isn't needed - this is already covered by the なる entry. I'm not really convinced it's helpful to beginners, either. If they need this type of guidance, I'd much prefer to have a note on sense 1 in the な る entry reading something like "usu. as ...になる". With all entries like this one, the risk is also we lead beginners into thinking the verb is "になる" rather than "なる" (sure, the entry is marked "exp", but if this entry is to help beginners who don't even know the meaning of に, do you expect them to be aware of the finer points of our PoS tagging system?). If we choose to keep it though, I can't really see why "becomes" etc. would be better than "to become"? They're essentially the same but the infinitive form is how we usually gloss senses with a verb PoS. |
