Comments: | I can't see any good evidence that sense 3 is restricted to 虚しい, indeed if it is, then it has to be a separate entry as it would break the 2/3 rule to have it here. Neither of the refs above show that that meaning is restricted to the 虚しい surface form, in fact 1642360 has 空しくなる first. What I propose to do is drop the restriction and notes (effectively putting it back to where Rene proposed it a few days ago), approve it, then reopen to see if any hard evidence emerges to justify a further change. |

Comments: | Ochūgen is different than Obon , though on the same date (excluding Kansai, Okinawa, and Amami). Ochūgen (お中元) is when you give a gift to your superior in the business "world". See the Wikipedia link, and the "jp-guide" for an explanation. I put Ochūgen gift since i'ts not really a festival, and gift in singular (can be put into plurals, but usually it's one gift). |

Once Paul Blay proposed it in 2007 and I accepted it, he indexed 536 Tanaka/Tatoeba sentences with it, including interesting cases like したがる. If it's deleted I'll need to track down and amend the indexing of all those sentences. I'd rather not do it. |

Comments: | I've been thinking about this entry for a while and my feeling is that it should probably go. It's not really an expression but a grammar point. ようが is just one example of the volitional form. I know there are sentences linked to it but I think this is better explained by a grammar dictionary. I note we don't have ようと, which is used in exactly the same way. |
