See the Wikipedia link, and the "jp-guide" for an explanation. I put Ochūgen gift since i'ts not really a festival, and gift in singular (can be put into plurals, but usually it's one gift). |

Comments: | GG5 has: "流感でわが家は一家全滅だ. My whole family is down with the flu." That seems to be a figurative use of 全滅, and doesn't really support your gloss. I'm not saying it's wrong, but GG5 isn't supporting it. |

Comments: | Like 連邦捜査局 (FBI), 中央情報局 is used enough in news media to warrant its own entry, I believe. I see that the CIA used to be listed under "アメリカ中央情報局" (before it was removed), but as far as I can tell, 中央情報局 always refers to the American CIA so アメリカ or 米国 etc. is unnecessary. |

Comments: | よほど doesn't take on a new meaning when it's used adjectivally as よほどの, so I don't think a new sense is needed. "Unusual" and "extraordinary" are quite context-specific translations. It really just means "considerable/great". I don't think we need a よほどのこと entry. It's just one of many よほどの〜 examples. Added glosses. Not a noun. |
