i agree it does generally mean 'small child' or 'infant'.  i think the original entry was fine and i don't think we should specify an age range at all.  the word 'child' is also ambiguous in age range, so i think it works fine here

I don't think the sense in the daijs ref is covered so far, and I believe it's the same sense as in the form "今に通じる". E.g.:
"今に通じる大師の教え"
"中学生の頃の感想は今に通じるか？"
I don't see anything in my JEs that covers this, and I'm not sure what a good gloss would be (particularly that would also cover the first example from daijs).

The "ichiman" ref actually had 嗽, so I'll move that to the front. GG5 has 含嗽 as the only kanji form, which is a bit odd,  and Daijirin has "嗽 <含嗽>". The question is whether we want うがい to be found by searching for 含嗽. The suggestion of putting うがい as a gikun reading in the がんそう entry is indeed possible. It's a bit messy, but less so than the merge we have just broken up. let's see how that goes.

I was contacted by a NSJ pointing out this was a common but erroneous version of 足を掬う. In fact Paul Blay mentioned that when he added the 足を掬う entry, and the Wiki ref above says the same. 足元をすくう is in fact more common, so I think it is best left here with a note. I'll drop the xref from 足を掬う.

it's just standard application of ~たがる.  行く->行きたい->行きたがる.  ~たがる can be used with any verb to indicate "(seeming as if one) wants to ...", so i don't think this should have an entry

I see 新和英中辞典 has this under the がる entry (along with 面白がる, 強がる and 寒がる.) It's the most common of the four. I can see the meaning matches がる, but why is it *た*がる? Isn't a bit idiomatic?

i think it should be deleted, but others should perhaps weigh in
