I can't find it now, but some years ago someone located a list of word that were deemed "sensitive" by NHK, and were not to be used on-air in an unqualified way. I think this was one of them.
I have no issue with removing the tag.

Daijirin's "「麦酒」とも書く"  is probably not a strong enough signal to justify a merge.
