Comments: | Saw this in a context where none of the current glosses could work. 魔力の制御による存在の隠匿など、君だけの才覚というわけではない = "You're not the only one who knows how to conceal her presence using mana". i.e. literally "you're not the only one with theses 才覚s". you're not the only one with the power to... you're not the only one with a knack for... reverse gave a lot of "talent" examples. eijiro gives "knack" (which also occasionally appears on reverso) and *powers* which would fit perfectly in the context I found it. "power" singular is problematic. I'm imagining something like "powers of persuasion" (though in this case singular also works in English). singular-"power" seems more ambiguous to me... |

Comments: | Any chance of a [note], something like [note: "often pronounced ふいんき in spoken form"] under [1]? Such a note might be an exception here, but this term is actually exceptional. The term may be *the* example of a word-in-transformation in Japanese. I was *taught* to say "hwinki", in Japan, in a Japanese classroom, by a late-20s/early-30s Japanese teacher. The impression was that your speech would sound a bit stilted if you tried to say huniki. (perhaps like "whatcha doin?"/ "what are you doing") |

English has a similar colloquial/familiar use of a husband referring to his wife as "mother" (if the couple has children). Also as described at the first reference link: "in oral expression, a humble term for referring to one's own wife". Please modify the phrasing of the meaning if you'd like. |

Comments: | 大辞林 states that this is synonymous with 鮭 (which can mean either “salmon generally” or “Chum salmon specifically”), while the more detailed page (that I’ve also attached) lists it as “the most common kind of salmon”, and it’s contrasted with 銀鮭 (coho) and 紅鮭 (sockeye). I’m concluding (from the specificity of the name) that it refers *specifically* to Chum salmon. |

Refs: | Are you sure about "the week after next"? To me, that means two weeks from *now* (which is what 次々週 means, but not 翌々週, I believe). . It's my understanding (perhaps I'm wrong) that 翌々週 means two weeks from *then* (i.e. from some point in the past or future, but not from *now*). . Certainly, 翌週 is defined in EDICT as "the following week; the next week" rather than "next week", which would mean "one week from *now*". . Similarly, Shogakukan defines 翌週 as "the next [following] week" and not as "next week" (the "the" makes a significant difference to the meaning). . And Kojien says 翌週 means その次の週 and not simply 来週. . At the following reference, is defined as "two weeks later", which is what I would have expected, and matches "the week after the following week" but not "the week after next". http://www.jlogos.com/new2_result2.html?id=7720272&word=翌々週 . Kojien also has 翌翌年 = 翌年の翌年。その次の次の年。 and not simply 再来年. Kojien also has a similar entry for 翌翌日. . In EDICT, 翌翌日 = "two days later; next day but one" and NOT as "the day after tomorrow". However, EDICT says 翌翌年 = "two years later; year after next" and I think that's incorrect. It should be "two years later; the year after the following year", I believe (based on Kojien's definition.) |
