Comments: | The Ichiman collection didn't differentiate on sense. The "gai1" came from simple high Google counts on an Eijiro-based gairaigo list. Since "ホール + hall" is much more common than the others I'm happy for the tag to stay here, but maybe "ホール + hole", etc. are common enough too. |
|
7. | A* 2019-08-27 04:14:17 Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | i think we need to be careful with the usage tags here. can we consult the original sources and check where the gai1/ichi1 came from? IIRC, gai1 should be linked to a specific english term (hall vs. hole), whereas ichi1 will be ambiguous. i suspect that ホール will also deserve some form of usage tag |

Other examples: 1) 使用方法が分からない 【しようほうほうがわからない】 can't figure out how to use; WI3 2) カードキーご使用方法 【カードキーごしようほうほう】 {sign} How To Use Your Card Key; WI3 3) 「解決すべき問題は、携帯電話使用の是非ではなく、その使用方法です」 "The question that needs to be answered is not whether we should use cell-phones but how we should use them." [ALC] 4) この薬は使用方法をよく読んでからお飲みください。 Take this medicine after reading the directions carefully. [ALC] 5) 新しい電化製品の使用方法を覚える learn how to use a new appliance [ALC] . It's *how* to use something, not the *rules* of use. . "use; usage" ~ 通常の使用方法では under normal use 適正使用方法 proper usage [ALC] |
|
Comments: | It's really just two words 使用 and 方法, which happen to be often used together (a collocation), and I would have thought it's sufficient to define those two words separately. But if there needs to be an entry for their combination, I think "usage rules" actually steers you away from the correct meaning. |

Comments: | I ran across this as 好ましからざる者, using 者 rather than 人間, and the 者 version gets 27.7k google hits. So I was thinking that, rather than adding a new definition for 者, it might be better to modify this entry to be a more generic adjectival form of "好ましからざる" (as at the reference link). But since I'm not sure, I'll leave it up to you. |
