Hi, I have just encountered a usage of 結びつく which appears to mean "lead to", and the example sentence, 彼の努力が好成績に結びついた is also translated as "His efforts led to good results". “pudding” is an alternative translation, and feels a bit 
more idiomatic, I think because this is creamy.
(I tend to think “milk pudding, fruit jelly”.)
Also, I now understand the トウ katakana spelling (instead 
of the トー that I’d expect) – it’s representing a diphthong 
dòu (realized while researching 東坡肉).
(I don’t think this distinction is respected much in speech,
