Comments: | (in spring) could be snipped out and change nothing about the definition, but since this serves predominantly as a haiku image for spring, it seems odd to leave that out. Stabling "in the winter" is critical to the definition, otherwise letting them out in spring has no particular meaning. Not all horses are kept indoors in winter, this is why 雪国 is mentioned specifically in nikk, and in haiku apparently the horses and cows can still see snow in the surrounding hills. This is an event that marks the transition from winter to spring. Pretty much all google matches are haiku collections. Would be inclined to xref [see=1222820] (季語 seasonal word in haiku), or to note it somehow in the entry, but I see no evidence that this is currently done elsewhere. https://sectpoclit.com/uma/ 季語としては、【春の季語】に「春駒(春の馬・馬の子・若駒・子馬・孕馬)」「厩出し」があります。 I had to look up the verb "to stable" and see if it could be used this way. Could say "kept indoors/inside/in-a-barn for the winter". Can you stable a cow? Internet says why not: Barn A building for hay and other farm products; also for stabling cattle and horses. https://etc.usf.edu/clipart/galleries/790-agricultural-buildings |

Refs: | wiki mentions it means "toe" rather than "finger", but doesn't say anything about it being read ゆび. actually, it says it's read し: "医学、生物学などでは、指を番号で呼ぶ。
|
Comments: | I would skip including this unless there are any better sources. What's available online is only guesswork. If it's really used like a noun by itself and read either ゆび or あしゆ び in medicine, I think it's quite odd there's hardly any traces of this online. |

Comments: | JEDIC has 母趾 (big toe) and 足趾 already, and the reference i just added also has 足趾 そくし with the added reading あしゆび (although for 第2趾 だいにし (etc.) we don't get the あしゆび reading, only a synonym reference to 第2足指 (etc.) The ゆび reading sounds to me like a translation of medical terminology (onyomi) into common language (kunyomi) - something nurses might do when talking with particularly young or old patients (add to that the possibility that it is a regional usage, since the nurse in question is a native of, and working in, Okinawa). I'd like to suggest that we add 趾 to the JEDIC entry for 跡(P); 迹; 痕; 址 【あと】since there are corresponding other JEDIC entries, such as 旧趾, 古窯址, 古址, and that we record the reading シ as "toe" in compounds (unless that meaning is already covered by the kanji lookup) and the readings ゆび、あしゆび "toe" as 義訓 in this entry |

Refs: | See the description of "audio dropout" here: http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013007 This collocates with the use of 音途切れ when discussing midi sequence tracks. |

Comments: | The Japanese and English terms appear to be nearly identical even up to and including their misuse in both languages. When used loosely, both are often used to refer to audio artifacts that are not technically "dropouts" at all. (It's a pet peeve of mine when I see this term mis-translated as "audio breakup" because in-the-know audio engineers don't use that term as far as I know. |
