たま・う【▽賜う・▽給う】
動五
終止形・連体形、ならびに連用形は、「たもう」ということも多い。その場合、現代かなづかいは「たもう」とするのが一般的。

shimeikai has no entry for たもう, but one example sentence for たまう is given as たもう
「神の与えたもうた試練」
  Comments:
yeah, this is a mess. e.g. koj has three separate entries (oubunsha kogo jiten has four) for:
--
たまう 【給う・賜う】
[1][v5u,vt][hon]
to give

たまう 【給ふ・賜ふ】
[1][v2h-s,vt][arch,hum]
to receive
*but it's also a v4h variant of the other たまう

たも・う 【給ふ・賜ふ】
[1][v4h,vt][arch,hon]
to give
[1][v2h-s,vt][arch,hum]
to receive

but the conjugations of koj's たもう don't match the conjugation of たもう in modern japanese (described by meikyo above). for modern japanese, we need たまう=v5u, たもう=v5u-s (but only conjugates as 終止形, 連体形, 連用形)

also, we generally don't give suffixes before the meaning of the standalone word, so the order should be swapped

See the discussion on 2840979.
I suspect the best solution will be to split the たまう and たもう versions of this and
related entries into separate entries with their distinct pos tags.
9. A* 2019-12-01 13:27:39  Dine2019 <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
Should we mark the たもう reading as not having a stem/ending boundary or conjugating? If we don't do so, some users or client software might
pronounce it as タモウ or conjugate it as たもいます / たもえ.

As far as I know, only some words have the cross-boundary reading giving rise to a new combination of stem + ending:
【言う】いう→ゆう→ゆった
【酔う】えう→よう→よった
According to this link, 給う isn't such a word:

Responding 7 years later to Rene:
"scriptures" by itself usually refers to the Bible
e.g. Oxford Languages definition:
1) the sacred writings of Christianity contained in the Bible.
2) the sacred writings of a religion other than Christianity.
MW also places the Bible alone in its first sense
I feel "sacred scripture" makes it more obvious it's not specifically about Christianity/the Bible.

Additionally, I feel "memoir" feels off for sense 2. daijs: 聖人が書き残した書物。聖人の言行を記録した書物

ぜんまい is also 発条 (spring) so 薇 is more common than the raw counts suggest (but I wouldn't have tagged it as rK even at 4% of total counts).
The kana forms still dominate in culinary contexts.
I can't find a source for "osmund". "fiddlehead fern" doesn't refer to a species.

Should this also be a vs? I ran across it in "お伺いする", so I thought it should be a vs, but then all the examples I found were preceded by "お", so perhaps it is just ”お伺い" and not plain "伺い" that is a vs. I haven't changed anything, since I'm unsure, but perhaps you know.

  Refs:
Thanks for making that last change, Jim. Regarding the remaining definition:
.
I think "hot spring area" can suggest an area *outside* of town, as in "Jigokudani Monkey Park is a famous
hot spring area near Nagano, Japan" -- that area would not be considered a 温泉街 because it's not a 町並み
(as in Wikipedia's definition -- 温泉の宿泊施設や温浴施設などが立ち並ぶ町並み).
.
And adding "e.g. within a town" also suggests that it could be outside the town (thanks to the "e.g.").
.
I suggest that we could say it's a "district", by analogy with the term "red light district", and that we
should remove the "e.g." since it's necessarily part of a town, and not out in the countryside.

"a part of town where hot spring inns or facilities are clustered" -- I think
that's a nice definition there from GG5, and I think my "resort" is a bit off the
mark, since it suggests that it's the whole of the town rather than just a part.
.
How about "a part of town with a concentration of hot spring facilities and
related businesses" or something along those lines?

687 hits. Yes, rather obvious, and you can have all sorts of 人工X. I think that reading is right. I'll lean towards inclusion.
2. A* 2013-03-28 04:53:17  Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
if じんこうは is indeed the correct reading, then i think this entry is entirely A+B... 人工 can be added in front of anything natural to mean "artificial ..." is it necessary?
