The rationale behind the sense splitting is not apparent to me from the English glosses, though it perhaps might be with some further elaboration.  However, I suggest basically splitting into "show" vs. "indicate" as in New Century WaEi:

Indeed. It was a design decision back when the only app was the old DOS "JDIC". It calls for a clean solution, and at present we'd have to make it another sense, which is messy.

I know it's a big task, but for general future dictionary development I think it would be useful if all "vs" entries were given their own definitions. For example, it's hard to know if this means "to infect" or "to be infected". Often with the "vs" entries one is left guessing a bit, especially about transitivity and "direction"...

I really can't see why Daijirin has this entry, except that it appears in haiku, etc. "秋の蚊' is pretty obvious. "autumn mosquito" is the best translation, but shorn of the poetical context, we may as well not have it.

Well, daijisen does say "現象", as well as nikk. Koj uses "土の降るさま" and then 現象。。Daijirin points to 黄砂, but here's the entry for 黄砂:

-i think し is kanwa, or at best a suffix.  see the example of usage on that wikipedia page: 医学、生物学などでは、指を番号で呼ぶ。下肢のものには漢字に「趾（し）」を用い、*****第一趾、第二趾、第三趾、第四趾、第五趾と書く*****。  it's perhaps a good idea to have entries for 第一趾, etc. individually.
-wikipedia has this as 趾[あしゆび] but specifically regarding birds' toes and toes in a medical/anatomical context.
-i suggest this be merged into the entry for あしゆび with a note.

JEDIC has 母趾 (big toe) and 足趾 already, and the reference i just added also has 足趾　そくし with the added reading あしゆび (although for 第２趾 だいにし (etc.) we don't get the あしゆび reading, only a synonym reference to 第2足指 (etc.)
The ゆび reading sounds to me like a translation of medical terminology (onyomi) into common language (kunyomi) - something nurses might do when talking with particularly young or old patients (add to that the possibility that it is a regional usage, since the nurse in question is a native of, and working in, Okinawa). I'd like to suggest that we add 趾 to the JEDIC entry for 跡(P); 迹; 痕; 址 【あと】since there are corresponding other JEDIC entries, such as 旧趾, 古窯址, 古址, and that we record the reading シ as "toe" in compounds (unless that meaning is already covered by the kanji lookup) and the readings ゆび、あしゆび "toe" as 義訓 in this entry
