14. A 2022-07-19 12:07:28  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
There is a good reason for having a form like サッサと available to text-glossing systems. It is very useful, if not vital, to be able to handle katakana forms a bit separately. I'm comfortable with サッサと ending up as a search-only/hidden form, because glossing software can still use it, but it's important that it be available.
13. A 2022-07-19 04:00:03  Marcus Richert <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
Yes, esp. when it comes to hiragana vs katakana I think "90k in the ngrams" by itself is a meaningless statistic. Jisho, yomichan, wwwjdic can all find this entry fine without "サッサと" being explicitly included.
12. A 2022-07-19 00:06:43  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I don't think it matters so much when it's simply hiragana vs. katakana. Most clients handle the conversion themselves.
I have no objection to keeping it for now but I agree with Marcus that it should be a hidden form. アリガトウ gets a massive 230475 n-grams but we (rightly) don't include it as a reading.
Once hidden forms are implemented, I see no reason not to use percentage-based thresholds (allowing for exceptions here and there).

Adding "to refrain" to the 2nd sense (and "abstain", from

Kenkyusha cross-references the above entry to "土煙" and give the meaning as amended above. You have the entry for "土煙" as follows:-

土煙 【つちけむり】 (n) cloud of dust

But, Kenkyusha does also add dust to the above meaning, which by Kenkyusha's reference both have the same meaning.

On a Google search it seems to be the case that "土埃" gets the most hits so perhaps the cross-reference should be the other way. I would like to see the cross-reference both ways because there seems to be reasonable equality to justify that.

As for ん, that's already a headword in 2139720, where sense 3 says "abbr. of particle "no"". So searching for it gets you to the right place. The entry for の is complicated enough already, and we've split 乃/之 to declutter it. I think keeping ん apart too is appropriate.

It's not actually the glossing dictionary - it's a set of ~40k kana-only inflections which in WWWJDIC get added to EDICT to help lead people to the right entry. At the time it was compiled we had a combined 不山戯る/巫山戯る entry. The 不山戯る version was dropped in 2009 at Rene's suggestion as it appeared bogus. The inflection file wasn't amended (I just did it.)
不山戯る gets 220 Google hits, most of which are from EDICT of yore. There are a few more genuine ones. I really wonder about putting it back as an iK. Maybe not.

I ran across a broken link that should point to this entry. I searched on "ふざけて", and I got a page saying: "ふざけて (etc.) See: 不山戯る", with 不山戯る as a link. But when I clicked on the link, instead of coming to this page, I got a page saying "No matches were found for this key!" Looking at the page source, the target for that link is "http://www.edrdg.org/cgi-bin/wwwjdic/wwwjdic?1MDJԻ". I was wondering if maybe at some point the kanji for this entry was changed from 不山戯る to 巫山戯る and something else didn't get updated.

No, that old newspaper-based frequency list didn't include kana-only tokens. しぶき is very "uk" and I don't think the n-gram count is high enough to tag it.

I think 飛沫 should lead. It’s not that uncommon as a form for しぶき whereas 繁吹(き) is exceedingly rare.
Jim, is there a way to tell from the wordfreq file whether しぶき should have priority tags? When ひまつ was split off into a separate entry, the priority tags were dropped from here, but しぶき is at least as common as ひまつ(飛沫) according to the n-grams.

Two things:
(a) I think that the 飛沫 kanji form should move to the back of the list. 飛沫 is almost invariably read ひまつ, and this entry can give the wrong impression. しぶき is very much a gikun reading of 飛沫, when it's a reading at all
(b) I think the priority tags should be on the 飛沫/ひまつ entry, so I've added them there.

Sorry Jim, I did not wish to cause any confusion by my comment on "獲れる", i.e., your reply, "I am afraid you've lost me with "Empty vessels", etc. You'll need to raise those topics under the relevent entries."
I was just trying to somewhat acknowledge that my versions of English may be some what parochial, so to speak, and explain the point by referring to some key words "Empty vessels" from the above. And, then I endorsed that point by referring to "よくしゃべる者はかえって実行しない", which I stated may mean - if I have got it right - that a person who talks well, on the contrary will not perform [carry something out]. And then I stated that it was not quite the same as the cat's meow that alerts the mouse to danger and therefore allows the escape; nor is it quite the empty vessel. Then I concluded with the admission of my parochialism by stating that it is obviously quite difficult to get matches that suit everyone's thinking and in a dictionary it is the majority view that counts.
Sorry to have plagued you with this, but after your comment I thought that I had better complete the circle by returning to the relevant entry as suggested.

Those とれる redirections are (deliberately) only to verbs with the reading of とる. The verbs which are natively read とれる are not included, as their entries are displayed anyway.
Those "しなかった (etc.) See: 為る" pseudo-entries are there purely to help beginners decode inflections which may otherwise be a bit mystifying. They are not intended to include plain dictionary forms of verbs.
I am afraid you've lost me with "Empty vessels", etc. You'll need to raise those topics under the relevent entries.

  Comments:
No change to the above. The link for "とれる" redirects to a range of entries, but it does not redirect to the above. In addition, in order to save another submission, I can perhaps state here that it does not redirect to "録れる 【とれる】 (v1) (1) to be recorded (sound, etc.); (2) to be able to record " either.

What I am suggesting is that the redirection perhaps should include the additions as follows:-

とれる (etc.) See: 採る 撮る 執る 取る 捕る 獲れる 穫れる 録れる

The entry for "取れる" does contain a redirection so 2 of the kanji are clearly compatible in that respect, see:-

取れる 【とれる】 (v1,vi,vt) (1) to come off; to be removed; (2) (of pain, a fever, etc.) to disappear; (3) (See 獲れる・1, 捕れる .1)

P.S.

I take your point about footpaths and the English meanings. That is one of the problems of living in England and thinking that English is "English".

However, I'm not quite so convinced about the "Empty vessels" and the mouse and the rat. Furthermore, the "よくしゃべる者はかえって実行しない" does not seem to fit. This may mean - if I have got it right - that a person who talks well, on the contrary will not perform [carry something out]. Which is not quite the cat's meow alerts the mouse to danger and therefore allows the escape; nor is it quite the empty vessel. Anyway, it is obviously quite difficult to get matches that suit everyone's thinking and in a dictionary it is the majority view that counts.

Although there is no English given for 粥状 in the Wikipedia article, it is obvious from the context that the 粥状 made from rolled oats is the kind of food known as gruel and has nothing to do with "arthero-"... i suspect the medicinal term is derived from the sticky consistency of the food particles in gruel (although i am not sure how 粥 and 粥状 differ)
