Comments: | I'm finding this one very tough. The decision here also affects 2/ツー, 3/スリー, etc. In theory ワン could be added to the 一 entry as a reading of "1". I tried it out to see if it wasn't too messy, and find that we can't restrict the reading as "1" isn't a kanji. My inclination is to keep them apart, cross-reference them, and add a note that "1" can be read ワン. I'll do that and we can see if it looks OK. |

Comments: | It's not actually the glossing dictionary - it's a set of ~40k kana-only inflections which in WWWJDIC get added to EDICT to help lead people to the right entry. At the time it was compiled we had a combined 不山戯る/巫山戯る entry. The 不山戯る version was dropped in 2009 at Rene's suggestion as it appeared bogus. The inflection file wasn't amended (I just did it.) 不山戯る gets 220 Google hits, most of which are from EDICT of yore. There are a few more genuine ones. I really wonder about putting it back as an iK. Maybe not. |

But when I clicked on the link, instead of coming to this page, I got a page saying "No matches were found for this key!" Looking at the page source, the target for that link is "http://www.edrdg.org/cgi-bin/wwwjdic/wwwjdic?1MDJԻ". I was wondering if maybe at some point the kanji for this entry was changed from 不山戯る to 巫山戯る and something else didn't get updated. |

Comments: | あほ is def. more common than あほう in modern speech. Not listed as such in daij but today, I think it's fair to say this is mostly [ksb], even if あほう might have historically been used elsewhere (just guessing based on the daij entries). _ Actually they did a pretty in-depth survey on the show 探 偵ナイトスクープ in I think the 90's to see where people stop saying あほ and begin to say ばか. あほ turned into たわけ somewhere in Gifu (they found the "exact" border between two houses somewhere in Sekigahara I think). It started as a segment on a single show but they went on to create a two-three hour TV-special and even produced a map/poster detailiing their finds: https://cdn-ak.f.st- hatena.com/images/fotolife/c/casemaestro89/20170626/2017 0626221606.jpg _ removed sens as ばか isn't tagged with it. I've heard the claim that to Tokyoites, あほ is more hurtful than ばか, but it's the other way around in Osaka. |

While it's a great resource (are you reading this Professor Bond?), it casts its net rather widely, and I'm wary of basing a gloss, and in particular a new sense, on it alone. In this case, all the 国語s say that the meaning is the person and not the act. |

Comments: | Those とれる redirections are (deliberately) only to verbs with the reading of とる. The verbs which are natively read とれる are not included, as their entries are displayed anyway. Those "しなかった (etc.) See: 為る" pseudo-entries are there purely to help beginners decode inflections which may otherwise be a bit mystifying. They are not intended to include plain dictionary forms of verbs. I am afraid you've lost me with "Empty vessels", etc. You'll need to raise those topics under the relevent entries. |
|

Refs: | See below. |
|
Comments: | No change to the above. The link for "とれる" redirects to a range of entries, but it does not redirect to the above. In addition, in order to save another submission, I can perhaps state here that it does not redirect to "録れる 【とれる】 (v1) (1) to be recorded (sound, etc.); (2) to be able to record " either. What I am suggesting is that the redirection perhaps should include the additions as follows:- とれる (etc.) See: 採る 撮る 執る 取る 捕る 獲れる 穫れる 録れる The entry for "取れる" does contain a redirection so 2 of the kanji are clearly compatible in that respect, see:- 取れる 【とれる】 (v1,vi,vt) (1) to come off; to be removed; (2) (of pain, a fever, etc.) to disappear; (3) (See 獲れる・1, 捕れる .1) P.S. I take your point about footpaths and the English meanings. That is one of the problems of living in England and thinking that English is "English". However, I'm not quite so convinced about the "Empty vessels" and the mouse and the rat. Furthermore, the "よくしゃべる者はかえって実行しない" does not seem to fit. This may mean - if I have got it right - that a person who talks well, on the contrary will not perform [carry something out]. Which is not quite the cat's meow alerts the mouse to danger and therefore allows the escape; nor is it quite the empty vessel. Anyway, it is obviously quite difficult to get matches that suit everyone's thinking and in a dictionary it is the majority view that counts. |

I feel it's worth having, both as the "standard phrase", and to mention its expanded role. The 中辞典 gloss is relevant too. |

Comments: | [exp], not [adv]. I don't think "till one's blue in the face" works as a translation. It would have to be "even if you try until you're blue in the face". |

Comments: | This seems to be more common as ありがとさん than ありがとうさん. The first time I ran across this the "さん" at the end confused me. But in looking it up, it seems to just maybe add some extra emphasis or politeness. Please add any extra nuance you think is appropriate. |
