Refs: | In Japan, dormitories for students, police cadets, coast guard staff, etc., as defined by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dormitory are usually referred to as 寮 (alone or in compound words), as you can also confirm via related entries in WWWJEDIC ;-) For the Japanese ドーミトリー i've added sense 1 to reflect actual usage as i know it (i've left the original as sense 2, however, because i don't have the time to check whether it is valid, too) |
|
Comments: | There are 4 entries, and depending on whether one uses Word Search or Text Glossing, one gets different results. ;-) ドーミトリ (n) dormitory; dorm; residence hall; hall; student residence; JWN-03224893-n ドーミトリー (n) dormitory; dorm; residence hall; hall; student residence; JWN-03224893-n ドーミトリー; ドミトリー (n) dormitory ドーミトリイ (n) dormitory; WI1 Could those be concatenated? |

4. | A* 2013-02-27 00:05:22 Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
Comments: | I recall my Japanese teachers using "ますです' quite a bit, but it may be something that gets used in JSL instruction, but not in real written Japanese. Even "ますです体" only gets 113 hits, and many are from here. I suspect this one is not real enough for inclusion, especially as anyone looking for it will find ますです体. |

3. | A* 2013-02-19 18:14:01 Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>
Comments: | i get a huge number of false positives for this, e.g. mostly stuff like 「...と思っています。 ですが...」or people using both ます and です to end a sentence: 「今月も任務完了してますです」. also, the example provided definitely doesn't convince me that it's a noun. |

Comments: | Are you sure? Seems like this common name is tied to (Ctenogobiops pomastictus) http://eol.org/pages/219476/overview I do see a "Lanceolate Shrimpgoby" though. Seems like the full name is Vanderhorstia lanceolata Yanagisawa, 1978. Not that I really understand these things but there's an entry for the Genus here: http://www.itis.gov/servlet/SingleRpt/SingleRpt?search_topic=TSN&search_value=172224 Anyway thanks for your good work, as usual. |
