I realize that the example sentences with the JMDICT entries are separately managed by the Tatoeba Project, and I don't know how they get associated with entries here, but I wanted to say that I think the sentence associated with this entry is unnecessarily homophobic, and I would encourage you to remove it. i don't think there's anything palatable that can be done with it.  any entry for a species name that has another non-biological sense suffers from the same problem.  a shortcoming of the swapping system

Yes, 醬 is another of the 表外漢字字体表 brigade, having made the JIS X 0212 -> Unicode journey. 醬油 is getting about 3% of the Googits that 醤油 is getting, so still rK.

At first I thought せうゆ might have been 旧仮名遣い for 醤油 but I see that's シヤウ in all the kokugos. せうゆ in fact is not in any kokugos, but the Q/A quoted seems to indicate that it is an old reading - it's an interesting discussion.
We don't usually include 旧仮名遣い but I think せうゆ can probably stay as "old kana".

I've run across this in a few places... similar to the way a wife might use あなた to refer to her husband, a husband might refer to his wife as 母さん. English has a similar colloquial/familiar use of a husband referring to his wife as "mother" (if the couple has children).

Also as described at the first reference link: "in oral expression, a humble term for referring to one's own wife".

I think 明鏡 would have written it as 啞啞 too, if they had a definition for this word. 大辞林 and 明鏡 tend to only use 啞 in their headwords while all my other dicts only use 唖

On reflection, I think the "oK" on 啞 is probably appropriate. 啞 is a very rare kanji. It was never in JIS X 0208, but got into JIS X 0212 and was included in JIS X 0213. Shibano's JIS 漢字辞典 simply says it's an old variant of 唖. "oK" really means out-of-date kanji, and this is certainly one. It's not in any of the other kokugo entries for 唖々/唖唖 AFAICT.
