I don't think the third sense is needed. It's only in daijs and it's not how you'd say "one/single spear" in modern Japanese. The other kokugos have "槍一突きで勝負をきめること" but it's archaic. |

The JEs tend to have both, e.g. GG5 has "a Japanese wooden 「clog [sandal]". To me, a clog typically has a closed body, at least at the front, so I'm more comfortable with the current gloss. We could add "or clog". |

I note that the JE dictionaries favour transitive glosses (in the active voice), probably because the passive voice can sound awkward and is less helpful for translations. e.g. "このびんには2リットル入る" is better translated as "This bottle holds two litres" than as "Two litres can be held in this bottle".
