Refs: | Here is an example of a cafe that was "produced" (i.e. "conceptualized", as I understand it) by the company mentioned in example #1 in my previous submission (not for sales Inc.): カフェ出店総合プロデュース【三軒茶屋カフェ様】 ホームページからお問合せくださったオーナー様は事業としての飲食店経営は初体験。 パートナーとして選んでいただいた決め手は 「店舗デザインだけでなく、飲食店としてのフローすべてを手伝うことができる」から。 http://nfsd.info/archives/176 . Here is example #1 again: 東京の店舗プロデュースや飲食店のプロデュース、開業、開店、独立、コンサルティングはnot for salesへご相談下さい。 |
|
3. | A* 2013-02-10 22:41:07 Richard Warmington <...address hidden...>
Comments: | My intention was not to "explain" the English verb, but to give a definition which, like the Japanese word プロデュース, is broader in application than the show-business sense of "produce" and "production" (because プロデュース is also used in contexts such as the design of restaurants and new commercial products etc.) Examples: (Note that in both cases, プロデュース is a noun, but doesn't mean "production") 1) 東京の店舗プロデュースや飲食店のプロデュース、開業、開店、独立、コンサルティングはnot for salesへご相談下さい。 not for sales Inc., [design office] http://www.notforsales.net/ 2) OSOROのプロデュースを手がけ、FABとのコラボレーションを実現したのは、MTDO inc.田子學さん。 http://www.fabcafe.com/blog/2012/06/12/fabosoro/ "OSOROのプロデュース" doesn't mean *production* of the OSORO range of food containers. Rather, it means *design* of the OSORO range: "Designed by Manabu Tago [田子學] and Hiroko Tago of MTDO, OSORO is a series of dishes in varying sizes that is paired with silicone lids, ..." MTDO inc. is a *design* company (website http://mtdo-ch.com/). They don't do production. The OSORO range is *produced* (manufactured) by MTDO's client, Narumi [鳴海]: 老舗の食器メーカー・鳴海製陶さんから、まったく新しい食器シリーズ「OSORO」が発表されました。 http://www.fabcafe.com/blog/2012/06/12/fabosoro/ Maybe we could add something to the proposed definition: to produce (movie, play, show, event, musical recording, etc.); to create; to design (new commercial product, restaurant concept, etc.); production; creation; design |

Refs: | A couple websites which add a space character after 蛙 instead of a comma. https://imidas.jp/proverb/detail/X-02-C-02-5-0011.html https://nativecamp.net/heync/question/27726 Many of my refs (Kanjipedia, gendai reikai, daijirin, meikyo) display the readings inline with this expression, so 蛙大海 is displayed as 蛙(かわず)大海(たいかい). That sort of setup makes the expression easier to parse. That option isn't available to us here, but we can use a comma to achieve the same sort of effect. |
|
Comments: | I wouldn't suggest that we start inserting commas everywhere they may be useful without regard for real-world usage. But the comma usage here is supported by some minor Japanese refs, and I think the utility of the comma is more important than the inconsistency with the major refs. |

11. | A* 2024-03-26 21:47:49 Marcus Richert <...address hidden...>

Comments: | Sorry Jim, I did not wish to cause any confusion by my comment on "獲れる", i.e., your reply, "I am afraid you've lost me with "Empty vessels", etc. You'll need to raise those topics under the relevent entries." I was just trying to somewhat acknowledge that my versions of English may be some what parochial, so to speak, and explain the point by referring to some key words "Empty vessels" from the above. And, then I endorsed that point by referring to "よくしゃべる者はかえって実行しない", which I stated may mean - if I have got it right - that a person who talks well, on the contrary will not perform [carry something out]. And then I stated that it was not quite the same as the cat's meow that alerts the mouse to danger and therefore allows the escape; nor is it quite the empty vessel. Then I concluded with the admission of my parochialism by stating that it is obviously quite difficult to get matches that suit everyone's thinking and in a dictionary it is the majority view that counts. Sorry to have plagued you with this, but after your comment I thought that I had better complete the circle by returning to the relevant entry as suggested. |

Comments: | Sorry, I didn't look hard enough at what you put in last month. Normally we'd have just the noun form with "n,vs" as POS. I suspect that アメンド as a noun is an abbreviation of アメンドメント, but as a verb it is possibly not. This makes me think it should be in two senses with only the noun flagged as an abbreviation. I wouldn't object to it being a single "n,vs" sense. |

Well, I am trying again :-) ... this time with some additional examples: |

However, I agree with Marcus that 笑 should remain as a headword. We lose the わら reading if it's dropped from here. The same applies to w. I think 笑 should come before w. It must be the more common form overall. Finally, I wouldn't call this an abbreviation. 笑 and 笑い are used differently. |

Comments: | Just wondering why you added "dropping out having completed some coursework". I didn't get that sense from the references I quoted. . In the ProZ webpage, the translators, both native Japanese and others, said - coursework completed without degree - They often leave their school without obtaining their degree after completing all required coursework - quitting (the university) upon earning all required credits - Withdrawal from the XXXXX with the Completion of Course Requirements - quitting after gaining all the credits required (but not gaining the degree) - the student (usually graduate level) withdraws from the university ... but has already earned all of his/her required number of credits . In other words, in every case, they said that all the credits necessary for the degree were earned. . The highest-rated answer (20 points) at the other reference http://oshiete.goo.ne.jp/qa/853600.html summed up as follows: つまり、 「単位取得退学」=近い将来に博士号をとれる可能性がある。 「中退」=ない。 ...and it seems unlikely that someone who "dropped out after completely [only] some coursework" could be close being awarded their degree. . It seems that they are saying that it's 中退 that means "dropped out after completely [only] some coursework" and is a blot on one's CV, whereas 単位取得退学 is something to be proud of. . Another writer at the Goo website (2nd highest-rated answer @ 10 points) wrote 単位取得 退学は、講義の単位は満たしている and suggested that this status has, at least in the past, been common in certain fields where it is unusual to award a PhD and it was seen as awkward for an academic who lacked one to award one to a student: 「わしの弟子が、わしの持 っていない博士号を持つなんて」 |
