Comments: | The Kenkyusha 新和英中辞典 has 小高い丘 as "a small hill" which fits that sentence quite well. I've proposed an entry for 小高い丘, and if it's accepted I'll relink the sentence to that one. |

Comments: | Hi, the example sentence, 私たちの学校は小高い丘の上にあります, "Our school stands on a hill", does not illustrate the meaning of 小高い very clearly. It is not clear how the translation would differ if 小高い was omitted. |

5. | A 2013-12-09 01:36:08 Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
Comments: | There are 78 sentences linked to 難い, and the overwhelming majority are for にくい/がたい. I have relinked them, so in a week or so this problem should be fixed. |
|
4. | A* 2013-12-07 12:59:18 Francis
Refs: | See below. |

Comments: | The sample sentence under the above entry is as follows:- 難い 【かたい】 (adj-i) difficult; hard; (P) [Edit][Ex][L][G][GI][S][A][JW] プラスチックは割れにくい。 Plastic does not break easily.[Amend] There seems to be a linkage problem. If one takes the entry for "にくい", one sees the following:- にくい(P); がたい(難い) 《難い(P); 悪い》 (suf,adj-i) (uk) (after the -masu stem of a verb) (See 為悪い・しにくい) difficult to ...; hard to ...; (P) [Edit][Ex][G][GI][S][A][JW] [G][GI][S][A][JW] プラスチックは割れにくい。 Plastic does not break easily.[Amend] Where the sample sentence is all right. I can understand that with a reading based upon "難い" that there may be reasonable explanations for the above locations of the sample sentence. However, if it is possible to correct the error then it is good, having spotted it, that I raise it. As a suggestion, I am wondering if the two main entries could be merged again, but maybe a problem will arise in respect of that suggestion owing to the two readings of "かたい" and "がたい" as already noted by Rene. However, sometimes it is better to break the rules and end up with understanding by bring two things together, than to keep to the rules and leave confusion. Also when looking for my original search for "耐えにくい", I could only find the following:- 耐え難い; 耐難い; 堪え難い 【たえがたい】 (adj-i) unbearable; intolerable; unendurable Maybe "にくい" cannot be used with "耐え", but it is noted with a [P] in the entry for "にくい", shown above. |

|
Comments: | The 日本化学会 proposed in 2015 to use「貴ガス」in textbooks, in line with the 2005 recommendation of the IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) to henceforth use "noble gas" in English. In light of the recommendation, is the [oK] tag on 「貴ガス」 still valid, or should it be used instead for the other 2 forms 「希ガス」、「稀ガス」 ? |
