Add “splitting into groups”, which GG5 notes.
Heard in line today – a man suggested to his companion that
they 手分けする, meaning he’d stand in line (e.g., for beer),
and she’d go stand in another line (for food etc.).
…so sense of “splitting up” seems pretty marked.
(I don’t know how “Scooby-doo” in Japanese translates “Let’s
split up gang!” though…)

  Comments:
My grandmother served in WW2, and every time I write about this I wander off to find this gloss again. I think I've used 軍隊 in the past as well, but this term seems a bit more common by n-grams.

I think this is more about English than Japanese. Whenever we talk about military affiliation, I think the word "service" is used simply as a sign of respect, and will often be the better gloss.

"serving (in)" isn't likely to make this any easier to find in the E->J direction (we have 63 glosses for "to serve", and 40 for "serving", and 151 for "service"), so maybe that's a lost cause, but you can only do what you can do.

Correct GG5’s incorrect “Edo period” to “*esp.* Edo period”.
daijr gives this as “since Muromachi period, esp. Edo”, while
ja:WP gives “from antiquity to early Meiji period”.
It’s of some amusement that the same construction is now used
for tourist information, rather than government announcements

Add form 習うより慣れろ (〜ろ, not 〜よ) – grammatically modern
command form, much more common in practice (a friend used it
in the 〜ろ form).
(Could have a separate entry; don’t know policy on this.)
Also add other glosses; “experience is the best teacher”
seems the closest English form (implying experience better
than study).

Rewrite definition; this is usually like large buckwheat

'oxygenation' is 酸素化; 酸素処理 really is 'treatment with oxygen' as eij suggests. there's a difference---i.e., "oxygenation" is a natural process (albeit one humans can also induce), "treatment with oxygen" is necessarily a human action.

as such, this seems pretty A+B to me

GG5 lists it under 着ける; I originally guessed 就ける, which
is an easy confusion: “acquire a skill/job” vs. “be taught a
skill (by a teacher)”.
AFAICT (職)を着ける vs. (先生)に就ける.
Thus I’ve listed this as [iK], as it’s almost as common as
the officially correct form.

-based on nikk ref above, not sure i fully agree with the specified range.

-also, not entirely sure this entry is needed; it seems like the reason the honyaku thread was started was to determine the real meaning of 数十 (whether or not it could include 32 or if it could only mean 30 or 40). that 百数十 is "one hundred plus whatever 数十 means" does not seem to be in dispute

Long Honyaku discussion. Useful and reasonably common expression, of which the meaning is not obvious.
