Comments: | This sense is not in any references, but it came up on the Honyaku list in a discussion of 見切り版, which in clocks and watches means the part around the glass. Note we already have an entry for 見切り線 : "boundary; edge; break line". I asked about it being an undocumented sense of 見切り and one of the very authoritative people there replied: "Yes, it has the meaning of "edge", used mainly with reference to the edge of an architectural member." |

Comments: | Meaning #3 indicates it's a mathematics term, but it can also be used as "vanishing" in a non-math context, as in the example sentence, and also in the book I'm reading. But I don't know if the domain field is meant to indicate a meaning is exclusively in that domain, or if that domain is one particular use of it. So I'll leave it to you to change if appropriate. |

Refs: | When the n-gram counts are this low, I think it's better to defer to the dictionaries for form priority. The -か- okurigana in 託かる is preferred by the vast majority of the refs (daijr/s, koj, sankoku, iwakoku, meikyo, kanjipedia, gg5, prog). I only see "託る" in smk, shinsen, and jitenon's kokugo. As in the example sentence (文法なんかくそくらえだ。 Grammar be hanged.). The reference links have a few examples translated as "dang silly", "nuts to that", and "stuff it". It shows up in the Japanese Harry Potter series as the translation for "codswallop". I've condensed those into "nonsense!" as a second meaning... please add, change, or delete as you see fit. |

Comments: | I can see what's happening. I create merged entries for the glossing file after a simple sort, and since のうりき sorts before のうりょく, they are combined in that order. I have just modified the merge utility so that if the merging entry contains the tag "(P)", it will go first, *unless* it is a one of the pseudo-entries tagged "<<verb stem>>". It seems to work OK. This fiddle, which will go live tomorrow, affects about 350 entries. I'm leaving this open as I need to amend the Tatoeba index for 能力, and that site is currently down. |

Comments: | When using Text Glossing, the result for 能力 is as follows: 能力 【のうりき】 (n) {Buddh} (See 寺男) low-ranking priest who does manual labour at a temple; male temple employee; 【のうりょく】 ; (n) ability; faculty; (P); ED Would it be possible to have 能力 【のうりょく】 appear first in that lineup? And maybe the sample sentence should be removed from the following entry :-) 能力 【のうりき】 (n) {Buddh} (See 寺男) low-ranking priest who does manual labour at a temple; male temple employee 彼はすぐれた能力をもっていた。 His talent was of a high order. |

Comments: | Saw this today in 雲白肉片 (ウンパイローピェン) (will add later); from hits v. common. This is not a common/popular dish in the Anglosphere, so no default translation; gave a descriptive translation and a poetic translation (as is common in Chinese dishes). Transliteration not used (no “yunbai pork”, and “yunbai rou” is 2 Japanese hits) – this isn’t like mu shu pork. Also brief [expl] – it’s boiled pork slices, with some variation in saucing, but basically spicy and garlicky. Omitting “slice” from gloss, as that’s more appropriate for 雲白肉片. It looks it’s from Chinese 云白肉 yún bái ròu (as 云 is simplified 雲). I can’t read Chinese, but from the Chinese page it looks like 蒜泥白肉 (suàn ní bái ròu) and 白片肉 and 云白肉 are synonyms; 蒜 is “garlic”. BTW, 白肉 (bái ròu) “boiled pork” is a very common in Chinese, used in various compounds. |

Comments: | Saw as 雲白肉片 (ウンパイローピェン) today, with explanation (it’s not very familiar, but not rare). The shorter 雲白肉 is more common. I’ve distinguished the glosses slightly with “sliced”, as that’s the emphasis here. Ostensibly this should be from Chinese 云白肉片 (yún bái ròu piàn), but that gets virtually no hits, so it looks like a Japanese formation on Chinese roots. I don’t think we mark these specifically (it looks like modern 和製漢語), so it’s clearer to refer to the form that is used in Chinese. |
