In the text which I was reading [text book written for Japanese children] it had the following:- かえるがなきだします。 As I would understand that, it means "a frog started to croak" "蛙が鳴き出す" is the equivalent to the main entry above for the animal world and I am wondering if there is any reason for it not being included or for my not being able to find it. It does not get as many Google hits as the main entry above, but it gets the odd 80k on my search. |

Comments: | not sure it needs to be both v1 and adj-pn unless the senses are split. verbs normally can be used prenominally similary to an "adjective". so i think the PoS should either be [v1,vi] or else split into two senses by PoS: [v1,vi] and [adj-pn] |

Comments: | No refs. My process for checking such submissions is: (a) try the KOD site, where there are GG5, 大辞林, 新和英中辞典, etc. - no match (b) try my collections of glossaries, EBs, etc. One hit - the 建築 EB says "冠頂 かんちょう clown". So it's possibly correct, as the kanji in 冠頂 are consistent with "crown", and the 建築 glossary editors are a bit prone to the old r/l problem. (c) try in in Google - only 730 Japanese hits, which is not a lot. - a click on "Images" to see if there is anything useful there - none really, although I discover that 冠頂紅蝦 is the Chinese name of Plesionika lophotes (a shrimp variety) - near the top of the regular Google snippets is an entry in the Weblio aggregator site, and I see their 日英・英日専門用語辞書 has "冠頂 crown". So I'm satisfied that it's a valid entry, but its low hit count and very poor representation in references makes me think it's a pretty rare term, so I will add a "obsc" (obscure) tag to it. |
