5. | A* 2013-01-17 07:37:29 Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>
Comments: | I'm not sure. Google hits show that "さかなにする" also quite frequently means 'to have as a side order (to be served with drinks)', 'to have the fish', etc. The ~にする can be applied to any sense of either of the two entries for さかな, so the さかなにする entry would need to have three senses (or two if it is specified as 肴にする). I would prefer simply to clarify sense 2 here, but it doesn't bother me to add the さかなにする (if all relevant senses are accounted for). |
|
4. | A* 2013-01-17 05:33:38 Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
Comments: | Aren't those examples really of さかなにする, which is possibly an idiomatic expression. I feel Winnie's submission should perhaps be revived - someone seeing さかなにする would be hard put to find their way to sense 2 of this entry. |

Comments: | I quite see the point you are making, and indeed GG5 has a single おばさん entry with two senses. It tags one sense "【伯母さん・叔母さん】" and the other "【小母さん】". Merging our two entries would violate our 2/3 merge rule, as they are really two distinct terms which happen to share a reading. Most if not all dictionary clients will display both entries when you search for おばさん, and I think that's the way it should be. |
|
2. | A* 2013-01-13 19:35:23 Francis
Refs: | See below. |
|
Comments: | I have not change the above because there may be a reason for not doing what I am suggesting. I the text which I was reading, it simply stated "おばさん". Searching on your site I got the above and also the following:- 小母さん 【おばさん】 (n) (fam) old lady; ma'am (vocative) First, I am suggesting that "小母さん" is merged with the above in order to keep all options under the eye at one time, for example:- 伯母さん;叔母さん;小母さん 【おばさん】 (n)[hon, fam] (1)aunt [note="伯母さん is older than one's parent and 叔母さん is younger"] (2) old lady; ma'am [note= "小母さん vocative"] In addition, the "小母さん" seems to come up with meanings like middle aged lady, when looking at Google, but there does not seem to be too much consistency in kanji; only the reading seems consistent whether spoken or written. It would help the novice to have them all together with the variety of meanings and kanji distinguished in a manner similar to the above suggestion. |

Comments: | Sorry, I didn't look hard enough at what you put in last month. Normally we'd have just the noun form with "n,vs" as POS. I suspect that アメンド as a noun is an abbreviation of アメンドメント, but as a verb it is possibly not. This makes me think it should be in two senses with only the noun flagged as an abbreviation. I wouldn't object to it being a single "n,vs" sense. |

Comments: | I am not too sure about this submission in so far that I cannot find any basic translation, except for “broadcast minutes”. However, in context usage, that cannot really fit unless some period of minutes is quoted. The usage is high as confirmed by Google hits and by radio usage. Maybe it is just a short form for something longer, but I cannot see any reason for that in context. Maybe it is idiom or technical usage. In my mind, I have settled on the usage which I have stated above and, if that is correct, then all that remains is whether or not you wish to include it. In my way of thinking, if a searcher wants to know the meaning of “放送分” because it has been seen on the radio broadcasting websites, then it would be helpful to be able to look it up on your site. A couple of examples of radio usage are:- RADIONIKKEI -(1月12日放送分) ABC RADIO 1008 - 1月11日放送分(毎日更新) There are a large number of entries on your site prefixed with “放送” so the addition of the above would not be out of place. You also have the following on your site:- 放送分 【のうそうぶん】 (?) ???; RH |

|
Comments: | Saw on webpage (for restaurant) as しし鍋. As per ja:WP, 牡丹鍋 is the more common term (I’ve heard 牡丹鍋 countless times, but this was the first time I heard しし鍋), hence linked to common term. いのししなべ is *much* rarer, but daijr gives it as a legit term, hence no [uk]. |

Comments: | Obviously many, many, hits and perhaps simply a + b, but the novice may wonder if "上" is "じょう" or "うえ". In many reference sources where the "上" is added on to the main entry of "道路" only the reading for the main entry is given. This is a case where this entry may really help the novice; and it would not be out of place with the many other examples where you demonstrate the variability of the suffix reading. |
