Comments: | No change to the above. The matter came up in another search for "にやっとした。". The full sentence was "ジャックはにやっとした" It was certainly in the context of grinning. In searching various ways, as you know, the site also came up with a range of entries, namely:- ニヤッと笑う; にやっと笑う 【ニヤッとわらう(ニヤッと笑う); にやっとわらう(にやっと笑う)】 (exp) to give a grin ニヤつく; にやつく (v5k) (See にやにや) to smirk; to grin broadly ニヤニヤ(P); にやにや(P) (adv,n,vs) (on-mim) grinning; broad grin; smirk; (P) ニヤリ; にやり (adv,adv-to) (on-mim) broadly grinning In view of the meaning relating to "にや", I thought again that there could be an entry for "にやっ" on its own, then with "にやっと" it could be applied to concepts perhaps other than laugh; as potentially seems to be the case, but I cannot myself find a clear reference point. In any event, it would make my search for "にやっとした" possible if it were included. I don't intend to waste you time on this, but when "にやっ" comes up on its own in text, it presumably has a meaning of its own. |
