The split entry in Meikyo 2e that I referred to is actually an entry for かこつける rather than ことづける.
Oukoku has two senses for ことづける, but they're both (verbal message and parcel) covered by our sense [1].

Our sense [2] isn't in meikyo 1e, which has 言付ける and 託ける in one entry.

Meikyo 2e splits 言付ける and 託ける into separate entries and has our sense [2] in the entry for 託ける. 

Oukoku has both kanji forms and both senses in one entry. Doesn't seem that it's archaic.

大辞林、広辞苑

This seems to be a pretty archaic phrase; I found it in the even more archaic form 念無う（ねんのう） in the 狂言「しびり」、 where it is used to mean “unexpectedly”, though the phrase seems to have other uses.

I’m also not sure on the best part of speech (I think it’s the same as other 〜し modifiers); the 国語字引 give it as 形ク and the phrase I saw it in was 念無う早かった (太郎冠者 responds unexpectedly quickly to 主人).

"物申案内申" seems to have been used in at least a few kyogen plays (釣狐, 呂蓮, 塗師), but I don't think that's enough to draw any conclusions.
As Robin said, the kokugos define them identically ("ごめんください", etc.)

物申: 案内を請うときの言葉。(daijr) / 江戸時代、人の家をたずねて案内を請う時に言った言葉。(smk)
案内申: 他人を訪問したとき取り次ぎを請う言葉。(daijr) / 訪問して取次を頼む時に言う語。(koj)

In the comments on 案内申, Nils says that 物申 is for announcing one's arrival and 案内申 is for asking to be shown inside but I'm not seeing this distinction in the kokugos. 案内 and 取り次ぎ mean the same thing here.

This is a bit subtle, and both are basically “hallo”, but 案内申 comes second, is compared with 頼もう & 取り次ぎ, and is the next step.
